I know Sellers is a fan fan favorite, but unfortunately, it is that fact and not his play that has been keeping him on the roster since his well-deserved Pro Bowl season a few years back. His bad hands were clearly on display last week against the Cowgirls and even though they have never been a strength for him, he still knew how to make plays in the pass game. Combine that with the fact that his physicality (which is his strength) has been in decline as well and it may be time for a change.

If you watched Hard Knocks or are otherwise familiar with the Jets roster, you know that they had an abundance of talent at FB this season. Jason Davis was cut, but is a quality starter in the NFL. He's hungry and has a chip on his shoulder--as demonstrated by his comments to GM Tannenbaum upon being cut ("On the field, you know I'm going to have to come after that ***, right?"). I hate to cut ties with Sellers and love what he has brought to the table over the years, but the time has come.

What do you think about Jason Davis? As far as I can tell, he is still availale.

I think that's a little reactionary, Sellers was still playing well against Dallas, the problem is you aren't going to notice is as much in some situations because of Shanny's run offense. His running game makes the OL run right or left, and lets the RB choose whatever hole opens up during the chaos to run through, they went to it almost exclusively in the 2nd half. Sellers turns into an extra OL in this case and you might not notice where he went, but he's in that mix helping to open holes, don't worry. He's never been a big offensive guy, he just had that great year around the goal line, but I know two passes he had the other night one was thrown behind him and then other was gunned at him like 60mph.

Give him a chance before you want to throw that blame on him, but his role is going to be different in this offense, no matter who is back there, the screens usually go to tailbacks not fullbacks in this offense, so you have to look harder to see him do his job.

The case for replacing Sellers is not just based on one game. He did not perform last year either, in my opinion.

This. It is not reactionary because I am basing my opinion on a steady decline of performance over a period of seasons. People forget just how long ago his Pro Bowl season was when he was jumping over people and bulldozing would-be tacklers. I have reached the conclusion that a change needs to be made. It just so happens that there is a good option waiting to be snapped up.

He doesn't block well anymore. He can't really catch. He's slowing down. IMO, he's done as a productive FB. And, remember last year when Clinton called him out for his pathetic blocking at the goal line and wanted him replaced by Yoder? In Shanny's offense, it seems like a quick FB (like a RB/FH hybrid type player) could be valuable.

Agreed. I think this is why they took a shot on Morris in the draft. He didn't work out but it does not mean we shouldn't be looking.

One season last year when he had no one to block for and one game this season?

I'll give you that like I mentioned earlier and FLK said, it's a new offense, and maybe he doesn't end up being a fit for it, but I think it's a little early to make that judgment too, give him a couple games and see if he's just getting blown up blocking first.

I mean what has Davis done besides be on Hard Knocks? And if he wasn't would you have a CLUE who he is? I mean if it was "the terminator" I'd say cut Sellers in a second ;)

Ditto on the terminator. Guy is a killing machine.

I will say that 17 games is a long time in the NFL. I'm not in a rush to judgment though. If you'll vouch for him, then I'll reserve judgment. Sellers in Pro Bowl form is something to behold.

I'm not 100% that you aren't right, I just know last year was a bit of an off year for everyone...the line sucked...the RBs sucked...the QB sucked, so naturally you aren't going to see stellar play from him, Dallas is a tough team, so it's reasonable to think, well last year the whole team was awful, then there was a tough game against Dallas, it could just be a rough patch.

FB is kind of a hard position to evaluate sometimes because it's a position that makes other people better, sometimes you don't notice it, and sometimes it's not his fault it's the RB's fault or the QB's fault. I will be paying close attention to him after this though, I know that much.

I might actually have to watch a Jets game or two just so I can see that Connor kid lay a couple dudes out, he's an animal!!

I'd still give Darrel Young a look as well. He made some big hits on special teams in the preseason. I'd also wouldn't be surprised to see Sellers lineup as a blocking TE on some formations.

Yeah I was a little surprised he was cut, usually with FB you leave them on ST to learn the offense for a year or so and then gradually work them in.

That 3rd TE kid we have is supposed to be another receiving guy more than a blocker, but they really liked him.

Young made the team. Paulsen's the third TE. I know Paulsen was inactive on Sunday night. I think Young was active but I didn't see him at all.

The inactives were: Moore, Riley, Bryant, Beck, Paulsen, Montgomery, Banks, and I think Jarmon.

I thought Jarmon did pretty well last year. Why is he suddenly a bubble player. I heard some people saying he might get cut at the end of TC. I think he has a lot of potential.

He does. It was good move to get him by Vinny. He's more of 4-3 DE. I thought they'd have him to replace Daniels and Orakpo replace Carter and have a Freeney/Mathis type set up. When they switched to the 3-4, they told him to lose weight so he can play OLB (remember he's coming of a leg - I think knee- injury). Then they said, no, we want you to be an end, so gain weight. His body has gone through a lot of changes in the past few months, he hasn't been at full strength. I'm glad they kept him.

Oh really? I thought he got signed to the practice squad, probably just thinking of someone else.

Just a numbers game, they brought in a lot of DL veterans, and when they moved Jarmon back to full time DE it put him in a mix with like 6 other guys for 2 spots through the game. 1 or 2 of them are going to be inactive all year.

Just noticed that Lichtenst....however you say his name, is only a 3rd year player. That makes sense why Shanny is working him into the rotation, one to keep legs fresh in that moving system, and two because it develops you a starting guard for next season or this season if Hicks moves back to super sub. They better start looking at C in the draft this year too though, Rabach is in year 9?

They drafted a C late this year (Cook) and he's on the PS. Lichtensteiger also plays center. I like the fact that they rotated Heyer and Lichtensteiger in too.

Not so sure I like them rotating in Heyer, but I can say that as a former Terp ;)

I much rather would have had Gaither or Crummey off that team.

I forgot about that Cook kid, I didn't really notice him much in the preseason, aside from our line as a whole not playing so well in the latter parts of games.

No doubt. He is another guy who I have appreciated, but has been showing signs of decline. In his case, I think we had so many positions to improve and knew he would be serviceable for another year. I think they will look to improve it this offseason.
