Now I'm biased, but the numbers aren't. Through 4 games:

Passing: 42/68 683 YDS 9 TD, 3 INT
Rushing: 75 Carries 485 YDS 5 TD

Having watched him play all 4 games, I can tell you he has been phenomenal. If not for the kid at Michigan, I would say he might have been the best player in football through 4 games. I'm sure alot will depend on how Auburn finishes the season, and obviously how he does the next 8 games, but he needs to start being on everyone's radar for the Heisman. After all, it is named after a former Auburn coach.:D

Lets not forget last years winner, through two games:

33 carries 308 yards 9.3 ypc and 4 TD's...

When it's all said and done, Cam Newton will be regarded as the third best quarterback in the......................SEC West.

That doesn't even make sense. The only one who could come close is Mallett, and that is debatable.

I am a big Bama guy, having covered Gene Stallings and the Tide in the early to mid 90's, so I will be damned if I ever root for the Opelika (By the way, spent a weekend there for my co-anchor's wedding and it was a fun place.) crew!:)

Not only does Robinson have the skills be he firmly has the media machine in his corner and that is 70% the battle. If he stays healthy he is already the Heisman winner. NO DOUBT.

I would take McElroy every day of the week in a big game.....and this coming from an Arkansas fan.

Hey, it's just my opinion. I would put Newton as a slightly better version of Jefferson out of LSU.

I'm guessing you haven't seen him play much, if at all. I know I'm biased here, but anyone who has seen him play the first 4 games wouldn't say that he has been anything but the best player in the SEC so far.

He can really throw the ball, too. He's come many miles from the kid that debuted last year. Their offensive line has really come together well, too. Keep any eye on a kid named Taylor Lewan. Freshman left tackle who just pummels people. He's gonna be a stud.

The one dent he'll have to overcome is his team's defense, they're questionable at best... but that offense will put up a lot of points, even against Big 10 competition IMO.

I agree that Robinson is the favorite right now. He's been on a complete different level from anyone else in college football this year. Do you know what his injury status is? Is he playing this week?

Yah he's fine, I think it was more of a knee bruise than a ligament situation. He'll definitely start this weekend. They just didn't really need to bring him back into the game b/c they ran the steamroller over poor Bowling Green.

I was pretty impressed with Newton, by the way. Reminds me a lot of Jason Campbell.

Dyer's a stud, too.

Lots of weapons on that squad.

There's a reason we're calling him Ryan Leaf Mallett in Arkansas today.

He'll probably play in the NFL based on his arm strength alone. Some scouting director will fall in love with his size & tools. But the collective Ryan Mallett is a TOOOOOOOOL.

Hank,

I've followed Mallett for the past four years. He seems like a nice enough kid and has progressed with his maturity level. However, in pressure game situations it doesn't seem like he has the composure or coping mechanisms to succeed.

His freshman year at Michigan he wanted everyone to know who he was.

In fairness, he was an 18 year old kid and people do grow up. I'd be surprised if he doesn't play on Sundays in a couple years.

All the guy does is talk.

He's awful cocky for a guy who's never really won anything. I think guiding your team to a 7-5 record in your only season as a starter is cause for a little humility...

Yah he's cocky.

But dude... the kid can friggin' spin it. Hopefully for his sake, he'll learn a touch of humility. This past weekend could go a long way towards establishing that.

I'd still rather have Denard. ;)

If Denard continues playing the way that he has, it will go to him. Newton has a handful of big games on the Auburn Schedule so he could shoot up the list if Auburn wins those games because of him.

Homer pick....Patrick Peterson. I just don't think teams will kick to him enough the rest of the season and teams don't throw enough his way to build up stats on defense.

As a Michigan fan I'm loving the rep Shoelace is building. First player ever to have 2, 200 pass 200 rush games in a career. He may just be the best college football player ever.

That's a rather bold statement for a guy who has played only 5 games, and not exactly vs the cream of the crop in college football thus far.

Still he's putting up over 400 yards consistently. Watching his games he's got a lot of talent in his receiving core and could easily put up 300 yards on teams like Penn State and Iowa. Not sure about Ohio State, but he could put some up on them too.

If Michigan had a shred of defense, they'd be contenders for a national title.

They're extremely young on defense and very suceptible to the pass. They'll probably lose 4 games or so... but Denard Robinson is astonishing and he's only a sophomore.

Once he leaves Michigan, he's going to have set numerous records unless he gets seriously hurt. He's already set the top three total yardage (per game) records at Michigan.

In 5 games.

BUMP!

198 yards rushing and 4 TD and 210 yards passing. Lead a final drive to win the game on the road in the SEC. He's one of the most remarkable players I've ever seen through his first 6 games.

Just to add, everything I've read from and about him shows how much of a leader and humble person he is. As good as he's been on the field, he seems like an even better person. Very happy to say he is an Auburn man.

The guy was unstoppable yesterday, I was hoping he would throw the ball when he dropped back because whenever he ran it I was like oh dear. He carried that Auburn team that last drive. After yesterday I believe he is the best player in college football, I think he is better than Pryor, Robinson, and Ingram. Without Newton Auburn would be a .500 team at best right now (They would properly be 2-4 without him).

191 yards rushing 3 TD
140 passing 1 TD

The guy is absolutely incredible. Too bad Auburn's defense is the worst I've ever seen.

As an Arkansas fan, the was a surreal game. Pee Wee League level special teams, no tackling, no change in schemes, nothing. The same officiating crew from the 2009 Arkansas/Florida game that was actually suspended for their incompetentcy did worse today. "Here Auburn, take 14 points, it's yours for free". Not that it matters any....with those 14 points we still gave up 51. On the bright side, Tyler Wilson looks even better than Mallett. Auburn has a really good offensive scheme. However, contain Newton (which Arkansas had no idea how to achieve), then they will fall. It remains to be seen if any SEC defense can do that.

I agree that the first disputed call in Auburn's favor was probably a fumble. The second one you couldn't tell. However, Arkansas got a couple of calls that gave them TD's. The pass interference call in the first quarter was a questionable call at best. Also, the 4th down spot was a gift to Arkansas and they scored the next play.

One thing we can agree on is that the defenses were just embarassing to watch. We probably have the worst pass defense in the nation.

The worst run defense and special teams in the nation lost to the worst pass defense and refs in the nation :) I agree on the interference call.....it was actually a horse collar on Mallett if anything. The refs were awful....but Newton was great. If anything, he can make it in the pros as a fullback or something. More than anything, I'm excited to see the future after Mallett....as this Wilson kid looks to have an arm AND a brain.

Yeah, Wilson looks every bit as good Mallett. I wouldn't say the refs were on Auburn's side though. 2 TD's for each team that maybe shouldn't have been.
