It is raining right now..Not sure if it will be at game time or not but today is a very good day to run the ball.

I do want to see Flacco have a good game but the game plan must be to run it down their throats.

If the field is wet, do the Browns risk Cribbs with his bad ankle?

Damn..Both Cody and Kruger are healthy and deactivated.

I read that Kruger is still having issues apparently with the playbook and things like that.

Not really sure why Cody isn't playing. The Ravens only have 3 DLineman active today, so why not have Cody in there? He practiced all week.

Just being extra cautious with him or is he struggling with the playbook as well?

Yes sir,
Here is my DVR Replay

Rice Breaks a 22 yard run, starting right, heads back to the left

Next play Flacco drops back deep, 8 step drops. Line gives him plenty of time.
Boldin is forced to slow down at the 22 yard line allowing the Corner to catch up and makes contact, becasue Boldin slows down.

The DB has the same right for the ball.
Safety is beat, a longer pass hits Boldin in stride at the 13-14 yard line.

To his credit, the Flacco TD pass is crisp and put where only the receiver could catch it.

Problem is, you're now looking for something no other NFL quarterback would give you on a regular basis. Brett Favre, Peyton Manning, Aaron Rodgers...all would have been just as likely to slightly under-throw that pass as hit a receiver perfectly in-stride that far down the field.

Of course, since throwing it farther continues to decrease the accuracy and increase the risk of overthrow, and if you trust your receiver you believe they can keep the DB from getting that ball, most of those guys would have WANTED to throw a pass like that to a guy like Boldin.

Unfortunately the interference that prevented him from making a clean catch wasn't called.

Kruger looked good in the preseason but it is apparent that right now that they have no confidence in him.

The pass rushing coach they have now hasn't done much.

As good as the Ravens D has been this year, they haven't forced any turnovers(Shonn Greene ran into his own guy and fumbled) and they aren't getting to the QB.

Harbaugh needs to go have a talk with his defense in the locker room. Remind them that this isn't college, and we aren't playing a "tune-up" against the Omaha Nighthawks or Tampa Bay Storm. It's more like Alabama playing Mississippi State: they might be an inferior team, but they are in the same conference and can still beat you.

By the way, I'm updating my earlier statement about Delhomme to three picks, two fumbles and Wallace warming up on the sideline ready to come in for the second half.

But they won't continue to do that if teams are running it down their throats. Their run D, both last year and thus far this year, isn't what it used to be.

Its still one of the better run D's in the league and most teams won't run well on them but its just not as good as it was.

Ravens are going to have to make sure they run the ball well in the second half to eat up some clock and rest the thin Dline.

Tony-OH
09-26-2010, 02:15 PM
Every Raven on D should give their paychecks to charity this week. They should be ashamed to give up 10 points in a half to the freakin Seneca Wallace led Browns.

They just got punched in the face. This team can't put a complete game together. It's either the offense or the defense sucking up. Ray is playing like a 35-year old MLB. Maybe there was a victory party last night that they held before the game...They certainly did not show up. Embarrassing...

I could see Hillis having a little bit of a game today because of his size and the Browns do have a good Oline..plus, the Ravens are thin on the Dline. But when I say a little bit of a game, I am talking 70ish total yards..nothing great but something.

And I could see Wallace making a few plays with his legs but nothing like they are doing.

The Ravens defense is almost playing like they have already won this game and the game plan is to just sit back and wait for Clev to screw up.

Good to see Ngata getting up the field after him. I saw him pull up at least 3 times because they seemed worried about a scramble. But Wallace seems determined to throw. Even to his detriment a bit. And he doesn't throw well under pressure based on what I've seen. Get in his face.

24-17 final.

Flacco had a great game against a questionable Cleveland secondary, as was suggested earlier this week. Now he needs a repeat performance against the Hair-Flowin' Samoan and the Steelers.

I'm hoping the Ravens were trying to get Flacco going, because they didn't run enough. This is still a team built to run, and if the Ravens want to beat Pittsburgh they will need to do much more of that.

It feels like the defensive struggles can be chalked up to a bad game. But if I am Greg Mattison, I am making sure that the defensive players know they can't sleepwalk through inferior teams if they want to be ready to beat the good ones.

The Ravens had eight penalties, which isn't bad. It definitely feels as though they have cut down on dumb decisions overall, though Zbikowski should be reprimanded for his play.

I still think if Delhomme had played this game wouldn't have been nearly this close. Wallace managed to do some good scrambling, and Hillis looks like a keeper as a running back. Cleveland might have something with Harrison and Hillis.

I like the Ravens' chances against Pittsburgh. The defense is far better than Tampa Bay's, and Batch still threw two picks. Baltimore just needs to run the ball and help put Flacco in the position to make good decisions, and I think we have a tie at the top of the North standings.

Wonder what the status for Pryce and Redding will be next week?

Who cares? Neither of them have bothered to show up and bring any kind of a pass rush so far this year.

You need depth vs Pitt up front, that's why.

Hopefully Mt. Cody plays next week. I think he would be a big boost to the run defense.

I'd also like to see Josh Wilson start returning kick offs. Parmalele is solid, but there is the potential for 6 points, if Josh Wilson is back there. I feel like 30 yards or so is usually the max with Parmalele.

Honeslty, I'm more worried about the front 7 than the secondary. I don't think anybody would have said that before the season started. Wahington, Webb, Washington, and Landry have played well. Zibby has been the only disappointment back there. However, the Dline is getting no pressure, we're being gashed in the running game and the linebackers are a shakey in pass coverage. Not good.

Boy you are not kidding. We may have the worse pass rushing DE's in football and they were not exactly stellar in run defense today.

Kruger's lack of development and Kindle's injury has really hurt the Raven's defense when it comes to the pass rush.

I thought Suggs was supposed to pressure the QB? That's why we gave him eleventy billion dollars right?

Suggs continues to be a giant disappointment since that contract. He hasn't done much of anything this year and he's certainly not pressuring the QB. He has played nowhere near his contract's value.

The defense has some worry spots:

1) LB pass coverage
2) Pass rush
3) Not forcing turnovers

Those are the 3 biggest issues.

Luckily, we should be getting guys back from the PUP list and some other recently injured guys that help us with this.

Gooden, Ayanbedejo, Cody, Reed and Kruger should make us a better defense in these areas...Cody because he will help tie up some Olineman to open up the pass rushers.

However, these things are an issue right now.

Also, the run defense isn't as good. I think part of that may be scheme but part of it is also inexperience at the LBer position. I think this is where you miss Bart Scott.

Either way, we need to get Cody on the field...We need to get Kruger out there on pass rushing situations.

And, we need Gaither back!

The problem is our D-line is built for the 3-4 defense. Our big DE's are not going to get much pressure. They're just not athletic or quick enough to get by an offensive tackle.

Gooden is very good on pass coverage.
We did not miss Scott last year I think we just need someone to take the position. For some reason they are trying to find one guy but last year on pass plays Gooden came in and run downs Ellerbe was in I do not know why they do not want to sub as much this year.

We were 5th in the NFL in rush defense last year but we gave up around 96 yards a game..That's a lot for the Ravens.

Part of that was people not knowing assignments and not being in the right place at the right time. Scott was there for that. So, I do think his loss hurt us in some ways.

So, it looks like Cody will be back next week..Just playing it safe...Im glad to hear that, as I was worried he was struggling with the playbook or something like that.

Also, it appears Pryce is ok.

Turn overs have een our bread and butter for years. We currently have 1 turn over...

Not good, IMO.

Well Scott was average at attacking the qb, average on run stopping, and a little below but closer to average on pass defense. With Gooden in we need a Cody type player up there blowing up the line along with Ngata.

We had better line play last year to me, Kelly and the dline are playing tired. Actually if you look at the season so far you have to say the secondary is playing really well LB's are average and Dline below. Hopefully with people coming back we can beef up in the trenches and sub more to get people less winded.

I hope so. I was just thinking while watching the game how unproductive the entire rookie draft class has been so far. I know it sounds like it, but I'm not knocking Ozzie here....it's not his fault the top two picks have yet to see the field due to bad luck (Kindle) and injury (Cody). But other than Reed's contributions on kick coverage, we haven't seen squat out of this year's rookies.
