Does anyone know what goes along with this, what is limited?

Uh, they "hit" themselves with the 3 year probation. The NCAA dismissed the charges against Rich Rodriguez after investigating. If Michigan hadn't self-imposed sanctions, there would be no probation most likely.
That was pretty obviously some disgruntled alumni trying to out the "non Michigan man" head coach. Fairly disgusting if you ask me. The guy obviously knows how to recruit and run the spread option. Now if he could only recruit a few defensive players and half a defensive coordinator...

Actually they gave themselves two years and were "hit" with a third.

I've always liked Michigan as my 2nd college football team and what has happened since Rodriguez took over is really discouraging. Now, hopefully he'll be able to get his system set up, and get some defensive talent into the program. It seems like he is really unpopular wherever he goes though. I could see some alumni upset with the brand of football they play now.

He's got a reputation as kind of a used car salesman, but the guy knows how to run the spread and he's a very good recruiter. His offensive acumen plus Michigan being a fairly prestigous big time college football program will eventually equate to success.
The alumni just have stick it out a little bit. Next year and the year after that should quiet them down a shade, I'm hoping.
