The Redskins open the 2011 exhibition season this afternoon in Dallas. Anyone out there anticipate an outcome that doesn't involve carnage and wholesale destruction?
(We're going to the Warhol exhibition at the BMA in the morning. Don't know which part of my day will be more surreal...)

Yes, they'll keep within 3 scores. From a blowout perspective, it's all about stopping the run. If they play like they did against the Giants it could be ugly. If they play like they have for a lot of weeks this season they can keep it a ballgame.
I read where Jarmon will get an extended look today. I'm excited to see that. Hopefully he can be a piece in next year's 3-4. Also, it's time to see what they have in Riley. I doubt McIntosh will come back.

Agree on McIntosh, and I hope he doesn't come back. I think he'll want a high price tag, and he's been a big disappointment this year. I feel like he just doesn't make any plays anymore.

That first possession was basically what I expected. Have we seen enough Sexy Rexy yet? I do have interest in seeing Beck, but no Rexy.
P.S. The ST suck so far.

It's all a conspiracy to decrease the amount of yards the defense gives up by letting start each drive around the 30.

How does that face mask on Banks not get called?

Extra point!!!!!
Number 8 is bringing Rexy back.
(Yes, I've been waiting to say that)

What a horrible roughing the passer call. Carter barely bumped him and didn't even make contact with his head.

True.
Everything else stinks though, anyway...meh....

In the little time they've had the ball offensively, Grossman has veered between "meh" and "not too bad".

Just wish they could keep their drives going. The TD drive was nice and the pick looked like a miscommunication with Sellers.
This game reminds me of the opposite of last week's game. Dallas should have well over 30 points at the half. But it's only a 2 score game at half.

That was ugly. Running into your own lineman then taking the sack and fumbling.

The thing is, he's not very good, but he's not discernibly worse than Donovan.

I don't know he looks like he's got HOF potential today :D

Greatest QB in team history. Without a doubt.
I didn't know you were allowed to score 30 points.

Rex Grossman 4 Hall of Fame.
Of all games not to be on TV for me!!:angryfire:
But hey, the decision to go to Rex isn't looking so bad now.

I feel like I'm watching an actual NFL game today, which is more than I can say for most weeks. Too bad the defense still sucks.

Yeah, these heartbreakers the past two week don't sting as much as there was nothing on the line.

For me, today's result was absolutely perfect. Play decently and lose. We get an idea of what Grossman can do in Little Shanny's system and the Redskins don't do anything to mess up their position in next year's draft.
Still you have to wonder about these Cowboys...they should have eviscerated the Redskins in the first half. The score should have resembled that of the second Eagles game.

Did you take the Redskins to cover too? :D
I'm glad that the defense held their own in the 1st half with the 4th down stand and holding them to field goals. There were some drops by Dallas and also the DHall ole on Witten. But I'm glad the game didn't get too out of hand and Rex's 2nd half would have been chalked up to a prevent defense.

I completely agree here. You know the guy can be your backup, or stop gap mentor, and we are a better team next year because of a higher draft pick.

At least he could finish drives. Too many times those passes to Moss and Cooley end up turning into FGs and missed FGs.

He still has a knack for finishing off drives by thowing inexplicable interceptions. I was not impressed at all.

Did you miss the 4 TDs or the fact that we scored 30 points for the first time this season?
Grossman is never going to be elite and he's going to throw stupid picks from time to time, but considering my expectations going into this game, I was very much impressed with his performance. I guess it's all relative really.

Did you watch the game? He didn't make any good throws, it seemed as if every play was a five yard dumpoff to moss. He missed a ton of easy throws and didn't make any difficult ones. He made terrible decisions and honestly I could of made most of the throws grossman did. I hope we play John beck next week, playing Grossman is a waste of everyones time.

Are you serious? They weren't dump offs, that was the play that was called. This is exactly what the beef is with McNabb because he wouldn't throw to the intended read, he was always looking for the deep pass which was like the 2nd or 3rd read on a play.
Playing Grossman is going to determine if we need a starter and a back up next year or just a starter. He might be a one year/half year stop gap if we draft someone, so you better know what you have.
I also hope we play Beck, but not because Rex did so poorly, I just want to know what we have.

Our expectations from Grossman should be merely can he function adequately until our top draft pick is ready to take over in 2012 or if we are extremely lucky, 2011. (like Bradford for STL)
The question is... can Grossman start for the rest of the season and next year or do we need to get a FA QB? I think the answer is that Grossman will do just fine instead of signing Orton or the like.
The key is our draft pick IMHO.

I did watch the game and I find it very hard to classify Grossman's performance as terrible.

I'm pretty sure you would have hit Sellers on that wheel route while on the run. I'm pretty sure you would have thrown that 20 yard strike to Moss while standing in the endzone with Ware coming at you. You can hate Grossman all you want and not be impressed, but to say he made terrible decisions and no difficult passes is not an accurate reflection of the game that he played yesterday.
