I won't be able to see it live, so I guess I'll have to avoid this area until I can watch it on the DVR after work. Some interesting notes on this game.

-For those who want Mike Leach at MD, you'll get a chance to see his offense today in the Terps' opponent
-E Carolina's coach is Ruffin McNeill, who served as the DC under Mike Leach at Texas Tech
-ECU's team name is the Pirates, a favorite topic of Leach's...so for those of you going to the game who are pro-Leach, don't wear pirate gear or you'll end up looking pretty dumb

The Terps definitely have the better talent in this game. It will all come down to their state of mind. I see it going either of two ways:

1) All of the recent turmoil....dropping to the #8 bowl when they finished tied for 3rd, Fridge's ouster, uncertainty over who might be coaching the game for a while, the future of the program....could be too much of a distraction in preparing to face ECU's offense and the lack of focus will have them in big trouble.

2) They are very determined to win this game.....for themselves, for Fridge, and to show the ACC and the bowls that passed them over that they made a mistake. That and their superior talent propel them to a comfortable win.

No matter what, I definitely think this is a motivated team. I lean towards #2 and say they win by a couple TDs.

East Carolina is a clearly inferior team to Maryland. We should win this one big. Maybe 55-31 or something. Take the over for sure.

Here's some not-so-great news (http://voices.washingtonpost.com/terrapins-insider/).

Four Maryland football players will miss Wednesday's Military Bowl against East Carolina due to academic reasons, according to a press release issued by the school's athletic department.

Senior defensive end Drew Gloster, junior wide receiver Quintin McCree, junior wide receiver Ronnie Tyler and redshirt freshman offensive guard Pete White will not participate in today's contest.

Gloster started all 12 games for the Terrapins this season. He tallied 33 tackles and a sack. McCree played in all 12 games, pulling in 16 receptions for 188 yards and a touchdown. Tyler started one game and played in all 12. He registered 13 catches for 149 yards and a touchdown. White started one game at right guard.

I'm not a huge Terps fan, but this game has been exciting to watch. It's 44-13 in MD's favor right now.

Terps had a very good game today. While I don't think they'll crack the Top 25 I do think they'll get a few votes.

While I could name 25 teams better than the Terps, I don't think that diminishes the year they had and the prospects for next year.

You could argue MD to be ranked anywhere in the 20 -30 range. But like the link posted above said, it's a shame they didn't get a chance against a better opponent. This looked like an early season game against a IAA school.
