Not terribly surprising. Once the buyout cost was cut in half, it more or less sealed the deal on him getting canned. He's gone 0-6 against Michigan State and Ohio State, they've collapsed down the stretch two seasons in a row, and they just got it handed to them in the Gator Bowl.

One thing is for certain, Michigan has to hit a home run with his replacement. On some level I'm sure a lot of Michigan fans are thinking anybody but Jim Harbaugh is a bust.

They'd be stupid to fire Rodriguez at this point if they're not hiring Harbaugh. This whole mess has been extremely poorly managed by Dave Brandon, IMO.

Just bring Rich Rod back and instruct him to find a reasonable defensive coordinator who'll run something other than a 3-3-5.

Mad Hatter to Michigan. Malzahn to LSU.

The recent reports say Harbaugh will not be at Michigan, should he even leave Stanford. The other two names being mentioned are Les Miles and Brady Hoke.

I think LSU would do better than hiring an OC. At least I hope so.:D

Also, I don't see Miles leaving LSU. Michigan screwed up IMO. I don't think they get Harbaugh or Miles. Maybe Hoke, but why not just let Rodriguez see if he can get his defense in order.

The Mad Hatter to Michigan seems to be gaining steam. I still think LSU could target Malzahn if it happens. Unless Urban Meyer has already grown bored with retirement, I'm not sure how many top candidates are out there. Surely LSU won't embarrass themselves like Maryland did by going through a pointless song-and-dance and taunting their fans with the possibility of hiring Mike Leach.

Maybe MD saw those alleged violations Leach had at Tech and thought better of it. I still think (hope) there is too much pride and stubborness at LSU to say "Let's get our rivals' OC for our Head Coach."

Dave Brandon should be fired for how badly he botched this thing. Seriously fired.

Not only has he totally embarrassed the university by getting turned down by Harbaugh and Miles, he's effed the recruiting class by waiting until January to start a coaching search and now by hiring Hoke (lol) he's going to undergo another offensive culture change.

You can literally feel Michigan becoming Notre Dame. It's a shame.

Hoke is a good hire...he tuned around both BSU and SDSU.

I hope this hire works out. cause I know a few Mich St. people who are enjoying UM being terrible a little too much. :laughlol:

But, Joe Schad said Miles was going. He's always right.

This is definitely not Brady Hoke's fault.... but it's a terrible hire.

I don't know enough about him to say, but people said the same thing about Chizik at Auburn. Look at him now.:D

Hoke isn't the reason it's a terrible hire - it's the well publicized pre-Hoke flirting with Harbaugh and Miles. Hoke might be just fine at the end of the day, but this process reflects poorly upon the program IMO.

Brandon rolled the dice with waiting until January to fire Rodriguez, then word started spreading about Harbaugh... more recently Miles... both of whom turned down Michigan.

That's embarrassing, regardless of who you end up hiring.

I hope Hoke ends up being the man, but I don't have high hopes given the makeup of the current roster. He's gotta change everything and he'd better do it fast, because as was demonstrated by Rodriguez's firing... he doesn't have much time.
