He is not a guy I feel we really lost. These types of guys are a dime a dozen IMO.

He's going back home. I like seeing players do that.

The guy must value being home over winning. The Orioles are going to win alot more games than the Pirates. Let's now hope that Clay Rapada can have a good spring as well as a good year.

I wouldn't say we're "losing" him, Bob.

Someone has to say... Beimel was not THAT great... that this is a loss. And at the exact same time we signed Beirbrodt. It's all just leftie BP fodder. Minor league depth. This is not really that bad a news, and at the same time it is good news.

scOtt, you did understand that I was making a Pirate joke, right? I am not particularly upset about losing Beimel.

Baltimore gets bested by Pittsburgh again!:angryfire:

In reality, it's not great loss.

I think it is pretty obvious that the Os are definitely after another lefty reliever, they are starting to "stockpile" the lefthanded bullpen arms in the minors (which is much needed anyway). I think they will probably add 1 or 2 more and hope that one can really pull away out of spring training. Well at least that is my hope.

The idea of Rapada as the lefty specialist is growing on me anyway.

The idea of any LOOGY hasn't really grown on me yet.

I felt the same way until TonyOH mentioned one time about using the Rule V as a source of LOOGY-ness. I'm still not 100% sold, but if you're team insist on the LOOGY, then that might be one of the best ways to get one.

I guess. I'd just as soon use the Rule 5 for the Hendrickson role.

As for the general idea, I'd rather use Gonzalez as our LTOGY - left-handed three out guy. Bring him in for whatever inning David Ortiz is coming up, and let him pitch the whole thing.

Right, I think this is the best way to use lefty specialists. If the lefty you've got isn't good enough to ever face righties, he's just a waste of a roster spot.

Put another way, if the lefty we use isn't good enough to ever face righties, he's probably not really good enough to face lefties over time either.
