Highlights:

- Wants to add more starting pitching depth

- Said payroll of other teams doesn't matter once you play on the field.

- Likes how the team finished and the new additions added. Said Hardy, Reynolds, and Lee all have a chip on their shoulder and it's a good thing they brought all 3 guys in at the same time.

- Likes Luke Scott's versatility and if a free agent DH opportunity presented it self (Vlad) he felt very confident in Luke's ability to play in the outfield or at firstbase occasionally.

- Wants so badly to fill Camden Yards full of Orioles fans when they play the Yanks or Sox instead of their fans taking over (wouldn't we all) by of course winning consistenly.

These are things we know about but hearing Buck say it sounds so much better. We as fans may believe this team can only be .500 at best for the most part but knowing Buck Showalter he won't be telling his players that. He expects them to compete and challenge for the division title no matter what.

That is what always irks me more than anything. People look way to far into projections. Nobody knows what injuries will occur, who will underperform/overperform, who will slump, who will show their age...there are far too many extraneous factors that influence the course of a baseball season to get caught up in where Baseball Prospectus picks us to finish. It's nice to finally have a member of the Orioles organization who doesn't buy into these projections. Worst-to-first happens, and it could be our turn.

Exactly, it's nice to have a manager who has a history of pulling off these worst to first turnarounds and is very competitive. Buck is not intimidated by the Yankees, Red Sox or the AL East in general and he will continue to convince his players to man up and take on this challenging division head on.

I like what he says about Hardy, Reynolds, and Lee having chips on their shoulders. This team has needed a chip on it's collective shoulder for a lot of years. This is the attitude that needs to rub off onto the young guys, to walk out onto the field pissed off and expecting to win.

Why would Buck be intimidated by the Yankees he used to manage them?

Of course he wouldn't but the players on this team felt they weren't good enough to compete against the big boys and Buck won't allow them to think and feel that way anymore. The fact that he managed the Yankees (and is responsible for their turnaround in the 1990's) and dealt with King George on a daily basis proves that he can handle any situation. Buck is a winner and he wants his players to have a winner's mentality.

Buck wants these players to take on the bullies head on, don't be scared.

Sounds like a good attitude to bring into the locker room. Of course, it's absurd to say that we shouldn't "buy into projections" or whatever, but I am cautiously optimistic about Buck as a leader and motivator.

I love the attitude and the desire to win now. But if they really want to fill the stands, then they won't keep raising ticket prices and window walk up prices on a fan-base that has been beaten up for so many years.

There is one more player out there who feels disrespected and has a chip on his shoulder.

Sign Vladdy already!!!!!

Well if he and the O's can sing Kumbaya and work this all out then he can feel disrespected by the other teams more LOL.

That's not Buck's fault, but I find it VERY hard to complain about ticket prices at the Yard.

He also said Luke has demonstrated that he should be in the lineup every day with the exception of only a few particularly tough lefties.

Buck didn't bring up the Yankee and Red Sox crowds at OPACY. Jeremy Conn directly asked him about his thoughts. Jeremy asked a couple questions that were provided by listeners; this was one of them.
