With the possible outfield depth coming on now and the fact that Randy Winn can play all three OF positions... Could this move have been made with the idea of signing Vlad and then making a trade?

I think so. I feel like there is a strong possibility that we will trade either Pie, Reimold, or Scott. The question is - who do we trade him for?

He'd really be a 4th OF type, so that "replaces" Pie. I wonder what Pie would go for though. His price can't be very high, so unless he's part of a package I'd be happy just to keep him and hope he comes around under Buck's leadership.

He doesn't have enough value on his own. It could be Pie plus Tillman for a long term 1B e.g.

I think Randy Winn will be a non factor unless an injury occurs. Which has happened.

I'm not sure why you think he's 1) accept an assignment to Norfolk or 2) not just play LF or RF in AAA. The players who can help the ML team will get ABs, and that means Angle.
