This is probably old news, but Santana Moss will become an unrestricted free agent five days after the Super Bowl when his contract with the Redskins is set to void--according to a league source.

When Moss restructured his contract in 2009, a clause was included that automatically voids his contract five days after Super Bowl XLV.

Not that Moss is an amazing receiver, but he would be an amazing #2 if we could ever get a legit #1 in house. Even without a legit #1, Armstrong would become our best WR if Moss walks away.

Nonetheless, Moss has recently stated (too lazy to find the link) that he is an "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" guy. In other words, he prefers to resign rather than seek a new start somewhere else, all things being equal. Hopefully, we can get him back on board without backing up the Brinks truck.

The most important take away from this is that we should have put this clause in Fat Al's contract! :)

Well that and he put up one of his best seasons ever when Shanny moved him to the slot this year.

I'd take him back in the slot no question, for a reasonable 2 year contract.

I wouldn't complain much about AA being our best receiver, he had a great year for being a first time starter and not getting much PT early in the season. I do agree that I would like to compliment him with another guy of that talent, and there are a ton in FA this year. I could see Roy Williams signing for less here to try to kick Dallas in the teeth twice a year.

I'd love to see them bring back Moss and add someone like Sidney Rice this off-season. A top 3 WR crew with Rice, Moss, and AA would sure look nice. They would have a big guy who can compete anywhere on the field and excel in the red zone, a terrific slot WR, and another big guy who really can stretch the field.

Yeah, that's exactly what I was thinking. Between Rice, Williams, Jackson, Edwards, Breaston, Holmes, Floyd, Sims-Walker, "other" Steve Smith, and others...we should end up with a solid WR core this offseason. Even if Moss goes somewhere else, give Smith the same role and I'm happy, he's been a good slot guy for the NYG.

I agree with what has been said, except that I would only want Roy Williams if he is capable of being motivated--an ability that has yet to be demonstrated. He appears to be one of the many "money" guys to me. As long as the check is in the mail, he'll be mailing it in. I'm not sure that is the type of guy that I want in the locker room at this stage in the game--considering that the most important thing we are trying to do is create an atmosphere of accountability and winning.

On the other hand, I'd be all over Rice. He's a great down-field threat assuming we ever have someone to chuck the ball.

Yeah he'd my backup to my backup wish list, and only if he'd sign cheaply. (after a few down years and the chance to play DAL I figured he might) I wouldn't go sinking money into the guy, better and younger guys out there for that.

Agreed. If he could be had for cheap, then I'd consider him, especially if he became a Cowboy killer. For kicks, I checked out his Game Log (http://sports.espn.go.com/nfl/players/gamelog?playerId=5532) to see how he did against Detroit after being traded to the Cowboys. He played against them once (2010, Week 11) and had 2 catches, 20 yards, 1 fumble. Williams seems like a pretty forgiving guy because he certainly did not hold a grudge.

I don't think he was mad at them for trading him though. I know there has been some bad blood with the way he was used lately in Dallas.
