Makes a potential Randy Shannon hire even more interesting. So I guess the game against Towson for Sept 3rd is canceled? Who do they replace them with?

The people on InsideMDSports deduced that this will be the schedule for the first half of the season...

9/5- Miami
9/17- WVU
9/24- Temple
10/1- Towson
10/29- Clemson
11/12- ND @FedEx

I think the game against Towson was rescheduled rather than cnacelled.

Wonder if they're going to try to move the game to Fed Ex or M&T? It's been a long time since the Terps have played a conference home game outside Byrd, but it's not unprecedented. Last time was against GaTech in 2000 at M&T, I think.

Zero percent chance. First it's going to take every bit of marketing possible to get Byrd filled. Miami doesn't bring m(any) fans with them and their bandwagon isn't full at the moment. Second, moving the game to Fedex or M&T means you have to share part of the gate receipts with Danny Boy or the Ravens. Since we wouldn't sell out either stadium, it makes no sense. Better to have not enough seats than too many seats.

Makes more sense for schools that have big followings like they're doing with Notre Dame and Texas. Also works well for the Navy game since they can split the tickets. If there's any game consistently on the schedule that would be moved to Fedex it would be WVU. It's been talked about, though talks were about it being the location for MD's "home game" in the rivalry, something I have no desire in.

Only if WVU has to do their "home" games at Heinz Field :laughlol:

I think Miami might have a bigger following than you think. Despite their recent mediocrity, they still have a strong national brand and profile. From what I've seen, they get as many fans at road games as they do at home....though that might not be saying much. :laughlol:

I think the Terps should try to play in Baltimore once every couple years. It would really help them market themselves in the area better. Too many people look at them as a "DC team." I know financially they need a certain number of games at Byrd each season, but with eight scheduled home games this season it would seem like the perfect year to play a home game in Baltimore.

Again I think you're overestimating Miami's fan base. We also averaged less than 40,000 fans a game last year and you want to move to a 70,000 or 90,000 seat stadium? It just doesn't make sense until we start selling out Byrd regularly and we have the opportunity to make more money. And like I said, whatever money we do make Danny Boy or the Ravens would get a chunk of it.

MD has played 2 games in Baltimore in the past 6 years and they'll play another one again in 2014. That's one of the benefits of the Navy game.

And for the record we have 7 home games next year, ND is technically a road game.

I was happy to see this. They were talking about doing the Miami/FSU thing on labor day again. Hate that.

But I like this. I'll probably be able to make it to the opener for once. :2yay-thumb:

Randy Shannon has been offered the DC job according to the baltimore sun. He turned down the UCLA job and has interest in UMD. This would be a big hire as for the last 5 years his defense has been in the top 30 all 5 years and top 15 4 years.
