For the wrestling fans out there, there have been vignettes playing for a few weeks now on RAW about a mysterious man in a black cape, and then at the end the date 2-21-11 comes on the screen in flames. Pretty cool. Anyway, it has now become obvious after last week that its the Undertaker returning from his most recent hiatus since his buried alive match with Kane. This brings me to the point of the thread. Tonight on Raw, obviously the Undertaker returns, but we are on the road to Mania now. So my question is, who comes out to confront him to begin a feud for a match to beat the streak?
There are many options for Taker to beat, um, I mean face at WrestleMania.
1. Kane. Kane is the one Taker was feuding with heading into the buried alive match, and Kane is the one who beat Taker in that match to bury him and send him away again. So, Kane is an obvious choice, yet would be very boring as Kane and Taker have already fought 2 or 3 times in past Manias, and there would be no drama in that match.
2. Wade Barrett. It was Barrett's Nexus that helped Kane in that match, so Taker could be back to exact some revenge on the leader of the now Corre. It would make sense storyline wise. It would give Barrett a rub as an up and comer. It would also not give the fans that "main event" feel that Taker's Mania matches have come to be.
3. Triple H. This one seems to have the most fuel at the moment. Trips has been out for a looooooong time as Sheamus took him out, and for the longest time it seems a forgone conclusion that when Trips came back it would be for a revenge match against the man who took him out. But in recent weeks rumors have been flying that Triple H would return to challenge Undertaker's Mania streak and to get some revenge for Taker retiring his best friend Shawn Michaels just one year ago. There is also rumblings that HBK himself could be the special ref, but I think if Rock refs Cena/Miz, you don't want to do too many of those special ref things. An HBK run-in however would be a certainty.
4. For a few weeks Sting was the internet favorite to be the man behind the 2-21-11 videos, and he still could play a part in being "the man outside the shack." But my main issue with this is Sting is not going to come into the WWE for the first time in his career just to lay down for the UnderTaker. I think Sting could make an appearance, and he could be at Mania, but he won't be involved with the Undertaker.
5. Which brings me to who I think it should be. Its a main event guy who has been gone for a few months. He has some backstory with Taker that could be addressed. He could return and say he has done everything there is to do in his career, except beat the Taker at Mania. My hopeful to face Undertaker at Mania, AND to interupt Taker's return tonight, would go down something like this...
Taker is in the ring (after taking 10 minutes to get there) and just as he grabs the mic to start talking, we head to the Titan Tron....
