wildcard

According to Jon Heyman.
Beato will not be returned to the O's (yet). He still has to stay on the Mets 25 man roster all year or be sent through waivers. Any team can pick him off waivers before he would be returned to the O's.
For now he is a Mets.

Good for Beato. He's a 12th man in the bullpen type anyways so if the Mets need that guy great for them. Beato is a good guy and it's good to see him get a major league opportunity especially since he was a lot lower on the Orioles relief depth chart.
We have Beato still in our system though, his name just happens to be Armando Gabino.
Good luck Pedro!!

As I said in the other thread:
It's a long season, we'll see what happens. If he pitches a fair amount and is decent (say, ERA of 4.50 or lower), I will say we made a mistake not protecting him. If he stays the whole year and is pretty bad, I won't lose a lot of sleep over the fact that we lost him. If he doesn't stay the whole year, then having spent some time in the majors may benefit him when he is returned to us.

As I said in the other thread:
He wasn't a mistake because honestly, we have a lot of guys like him in the organization. Or, you can go out and find a Rupe who will be very similar as well. It's not hard to find a Beato in my opinion.
I hope he does well, but if he's returned this year, he'll just end up another relief depth guy for us. There's nothing wrong with that, and the more depth the better, but he doesn't get ground balls and he doesn't strike many guys out. That means he's not really a good fit for setup or closer so that makes him a middle guy or mop guy, and we all have seen he's more effective in one and two inning stints than in longer stints.
In the end, I'm happy for him, but unless his stuff has improved since last year, he's a guy who going to bounce around between AAA and the majors and end up with a lot of organizations in his career.
