This was a procedural move to open up a spot for Rapada.

Though this is the team admitting that he won't be back before the end of May, at the earliest.

Does it really matter? Even if he is able to ever pitch again, it will likely take him that long to get himself back in pitching shape.

We all saw this a mile away. We need Matusz back more than we need Duke back. Perhaps Duke come back at mid-season and give us a few good starts if someone else is either injured or struggling. If not, we´re hoping that at least 5 of our other 6 starters (Guthrie, Britton, Matusz, Bergesen, Tillman, and Arrieta) stays healthy for the season.

I think Duke did this on purpose. He probably was not feeling well when he threw for us over the winter but wanted one more paycheck before he went off to play tennis so he wouldnt have to hurt anyones feelings.

This is his way of retiring.
