- The Orioles are, at least, considering the possibility of bringing back veteran Kevin Millwood, although it remains to be seen if the right-hander -- who opted out of his contract with the Yankees on Sunday -- would accept a Minor League deal.

Millwood was 4-16 with a 5.10 ERA in 31 starts with Baltimore in 2010, and given the team's lack of starting-rotation depth, the O's have kicked around the idea.

"Everybody thinks the world of Kevin, including me," said manager Buck Showalter when asked about the team's interest in Millwood. "But that's a question for [president of baseball operations Andy MacPhail].

What do we think of this?? I'd like to see what he could do in the pen honestly.

If he's willing to pitch out of the pen I'd certainly take him over Rupe.

I think by the middle of this Month that Matusz will join the rotation, and either Bergesen or Tillman will be leaving the starting 5. I don't think Millwood is as good an option as either Bergesen or Tillman.

Agree. I don't see what Millwood brings to the rotation that Tillman/Bergesen already do.

I dont know if it's even being discussed but is Millwood better than Rupe?

I'd be fine with him out of the pen or as depth at Norfolk. Outside of that though there's no long-term benefit to signing him. He'd just be taking innings away from one of the guys that we have to evaluate.

I think he made a pretty stupid move. He should have stayed in Scranton, worked through whatever his issues were, and been the next man up when someone else gets hurt or is ineffective in New York.

Right now he's a guy who performed poorly last season, performed poorly in his month in AAA this season, is having well-reported velocity issues, and has obvious unrealistic expectations about his role. Why would, or should, the Orioles touch him?

If someone's stabbing me in the arm, I don't change to someone who is going to stab me in the leg. I find someone who won't stab me.

It wouldn't take much. I'm very unimpressed with Rupe.

I was thinking the same thing....he looks like a poor option right now....except for long relief mop up duty. Maybe he had to opt out now to avoid being stuck in AAA all summer....if nothing opened up with the yanks?

What if all the people who won't stab you are overpriced? :p

Only interested in Millwood as a bullpen arm.

I think its basically no risk to stick him in the pen. Rupe is not good and we could use someone to give STRONG long relief. Right now if a guy comes out in the 5th, the bp is NOT gonna hold down the other team's offense to get us a chance to come back. I'm not saying Millwood would be amazing in the bp but right now, given the other options, I think he could be okay there.

Yeah, only as a replacement for Rupe. I doubt that's what he's interested in though, otherwise he should have stayed with the MFY.

That's the way I feel but I doubt Millwood would come here to take that kind of role.

I'm curious if we'd even be discussing this if Millwood was never on the Orioles? Chris Ray could still be an Oriole (not saying that's preferable, just sayin at this point...he'd be better than Millwood or Rupe in that role)

Well I believe if Millwood wants to start then he can keep looking, there is no way I start him over anybody we have. However if we are reluctant to put Tillman or Bergy in the pen for some reason and Millwood takes a bullpen job, I think it could be worth it.

Rupe is awful and there is really no one in the minors that I say "wow he would be great here in the long role".

He's also good insurance in case the fragile Koji should have any problems.

If he were to agree to be a bp piece, I wonder if they would start him at AAA in the pen to get him used to it?

Hey, I'm a lefty and I throw at least 60...

I may not be very good but... I'm slow.
