...should the Orioles gamble and take him?
He is a big time prospect in this draft and he sent teams a letter saying he wanted to go to college.
But do you take him if you are the Orioles, if he is still there(which I doubt he will be) and just throw 3-4 million at him and try and sign him?
If you can't get him, you don't end up with a second round pick.

I don't have anywhere near enough info to say. And I doubt anyone here does.

Yeah, I know that. I'm talking about the likelihood of him signing. The only way you could get a gauge on that is to have actually talked to him and his family. If you don't think he will sign, no point in wasting a pick in what is supposed to be a very deep draft.
If he's still there in the 5th or so, I could see it. But in the 2nd round, you need to be pretty sure he'll sign, especially when you don't have any extra picks.
I could see TB picking him though.

Sure. If there's a inkling that he's willing to talk. Why Not? And here I thought getting 2 first round talents in one draft was reserved for Boston and Tampa.

Gammons said he's going to college. I wouldn't risk it in the 2nd round. Barring some team getting inside info that he'll play for them I wouldn't expect a team to take a flyer on him until the 8th round or later.

He won't sign. Boras didn't tell him to send the letter, he did it behind his back. He's going to Texas.

Doesn't sound like the name of a winner.

Consdering we have one of Texas' better recruits in Bundy, perhaps he might be persuaded to come to Baltimore...

No convincing. He wants to go to college for the college experience, not just to play baseball. Big family thing.

In such a deep draft, I agree Bell is not worth the risk in the second round.

He wants to go to college or become filthy rich. Only the right organization and a TON of money will convince him otherwise. Baltimore offers neither.

I'm not the one managing a budget, but if the O's get Bundy and another big pick a la Norris in the 2nd, I'd then try to pop Bell in the 3rd/4th if he's there. It might intrigue him to get offerred a lot of money and to come in with those two elite guys. If I'm the O's, I'm trying to go big just so I can keep up with the AL East Jones's.
All wishful thinking though. There's no chance of this happening.
