Jake yesterday

I didn't see the game, but I was pleased that he kept his pitch count under control. He only threw 102 pitches in 6.2 IP. It's a shame that Rapada comes in with 2 outs in the 7th to face a lefty batter, and can't strand the runner on 1st for Jake there.

Overall, in a season with a lot of disappointments, I consider Jake's development a bright spot. He's had 11 quality starts in 15 outings. To me, he is a guy who is consistently improving, year by year and game by game. He's going to keep getting better.

The Blue Jays' commentators (including Buck M.) were praising Jake throughout the game. I don't know Martinez's commentator partner, but he was saying, from what he's seen, Jake is the best of all of our young pitchers. To add, Wieters said in a little fun interview the other day that Jake has the best "stuff" on the staff...

His WHIP has been going down, which is good, but still a little too many walks and a not as many strikeouts as I'd like to see. His BB/9 rate is the same as it was last year through almost the same amount of innings. Hopefully as the season progresses and he gets a little more experience it will start to improve.

Yup...and he didn't hesitate when asked that question.

Not to change the subject, but Rapada pitching to Lind kind of ticked me off because he paid too much attention to the runner on first. He threw two great pitches to Lind, then threw that fat one up there. Seemed to me that he should have forgot about that guy on first and just concentrated on the hitter.

Could help but think - at the time, not after Rapada gave up the homer - that if I was Jake and Showalter stepped out of the dugout in that situation, I'd have told him I'd shove the ball up his posterior before I walked off that mound. The Buck Ball honeymoon is over for me. I know the team win is more important than the individual pitcher's win, but I don't think there's a pitcher in our bullpen that is a lock to do better than Arrieta might have in that situation. Didn't like the decision at all and I would have hated it if I was Arrieta.
