Thought we could use a thread to specifically discuss the draft tonight. We've had one 3-team trade so far today:

Milwaukee Bucks get Stephen Jackson, Shaun Livingston, Beno Udrih and the 19th pick.
Sacramento Kings get John Salmons and the 10th pick.
Charlotte Bobcats get Corey Maggette and the 7th pick.

I didn't see that, but I love that trade for Charlotte. They get a solid bench player, and they can fill their need for an athletic scoring 2 or 3 better at the 7 spot than they can at the 19th spot.

Should be a really interesting draft. I know who's going 1 and 2, but I don't who's taking them.

Not bad for Milwaukee either. They get a proven (albeit volatile) scorer and can still build frontcourt depth with the #19 pick. Not sure it makes sense for Sacramento though. All day I've been hearing how much they want Fredette, but by moving from #7 to #10 they just made it easier for other teams linked to him (Utah, NY Knicks) to jump ahead and get him.

Stern takes the podium, and the Cavs are on the clock.

Kyrie Irving #1 to the Cavs. And to think, that would have been the Clippers' pick and Irving would be teaming up with Blake Griffin, were it not for a dumb trade just to dump Baron Davis' salary. Donald Sterling embodies everything that is wrong with pro sports ownership.

Minnesota is on the clock. Here's where things could get interesting. David Kahn is unconventional, to put it nicely.

So will Williams play the 3 in the pros? Or does he/Love get moved?

I think Williams is more suited as a 3. Which could make Beasley trade bait.

#3 Enis Kanter to Utah
#4 Tristan Thompson to Cleveland

Thompson that high is a bit surprising.

Gotta think Toronto takes Brandon Knight here.

EDIT: Or not.

#5 Jonas Valanciunas to Toronto.

I was hoping for Kawhi Leonard, but seeing Vesely run the floor with Wall is going to be exciting I think.

#6 Jan Vesely to the Wizards.

Good pick for them.

Back to the Kanter selection for a second, the Jazz now have Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors, and Enes Kanter in the front-court. Who gets moved? I have to think at least one possibly two of them...

They totally just drafted the hottest GF in the draft.

My guess would be Millsap.

Dunno how will his talents will translate into the NBA, but I love my Kings taking Jimmer.

Jimmermania to Sacramento. Jimmer, Salmons, and Evans is a lot of guys who need the ball in their hands.

Wiz get Singleton with their second pick. I like it. He's a scrappy player who doesn't mind banging around down low.

As usual, the Blazers never fail to disappoint and confound their fan base. We can only hope they were picking Smith for someone else.

They gotta be a little bummed to come that close to getting Leonard at 18, but Singleton isn't a bad consolation prize.

According to ESPN, Leonard is headed to San Antonio in exchange for George Hill. A bit surprising, I figured Parker was the guy the Spurs most wanted to unload...he might be the oldest 29-year old player in the league.

I hope the go Justin Harper with the round 2 pick. 6'10 scorer from richmond. Very cerebral player.

Jordan Williams to the Nets at #36. He should have a decent shot to earn some playing time there. Hope for the best for him.

What a d-bag. Way to sell yourself out, trash everyone at the University, and then only be a 2nd round pick with a non-guaranteed contract. Say hi to James Gist over in Europe for me.

Oh boy, was Hinrich was good to the Wizards. We got a 1st (17, Seraphin) for taking him off the Bulls, then for turning around and giving him to the Hawks we got Crawford (who went 1-27 himself) and another first round pick (1-18, Singleton).

I hope he's any good, I'm not sold. He can run fast and dunk a lot but that doesn't always translate into being an effective player. There's a lot of guys like that who really end up worthless.

He has tons of talent and upside...He is NBA ready. How good he will be is TBD but it was an excellent pick by the Wiz.

Sorry, the success rate on european players is very very small. On rare occasions do they pan out and I can go back and find euros that were as highly regarded if not more highly regarded than Ves that never panned out.

Obviously since I attend 20+ Wiz games a year I am hoping for the best but the move was to trade McGee and the 6 to get Williams IMO, one of the two sure things in the draft.

Yeah, I agree. Short of D. Williams, probably the best pick they could have made. For people who have no idea about this kid, think A. Kirilenko. I've heard people say he's got no shot, but I saw a lot of footage of him raining jumpers from outside. He's more a catch and shoot guy with his shot, but he's a drive to the basket or catch in mid air and put down kind of player. Plays best on the fast break, which should go REALLY well with Wall. Wiz will be tough to keep up with if their small lineup is in.

Sorry, I can't embed right now, but that's a link of a pretty good scouting breakdown of Veseley. I'm not sold. He looks really raw in some ways, particularly his hands.

Yeah but then you are back to having no center and no rebounding. Williams plays the same kind of game Ves does. A quick scoring 4, or big 3. A lot of the European guys get overrated at draft time and were never really that good, but this kid was viewed as the best int'l guy this year overall. The other J.V. has a little more upside but way more risk too. End of the day it was a weak draft, and it was either give up one of your legit established pieces to get a similar player that's more of a sure thing, or take a little risk but keep your established C. We made a similar move a few years back, traded that Ben Wallace kid and then for the next few years had a contending team that was only missing a big rebounding defensive presence inside.

I hope Singleton can be a Ben Wallace for the team. I mean, I'm a Big Ten fan but you all watch ACC basketball I bet so you've seen what a defensive stud he is.

I think Kyrie was the only sure star-type player in this draft. Now, I think D. Williams is sure to have an NBA career of at least several years, but just how good is unknown so I probably would rather roll the dice on Jan than trade up for him.

I thought Charlotte had the potential to have an excellent draft, with the trade that gave them the #7 pick and Maggette. Kemba Walker being there for them to take at #9 was great pick. But I'm not at all sold on Biyambo at #7. He's basically Serge Ibaka with even less offensive skills. Nothing against Ibaka, who Rich Cho actually played a big part in selecting at OKC, but to pick the lite version of him at #7 is a big reach. So they get an A from me for their pre-draft work, but just a B- on their actual picks.

I thought Shelvin Mack was a solid pick too in the second round with a non guaranteed contract. Worth a shot. But I like what we did in such a weak draft.

He was a very solid pick....He should be a pro for 5-10 years...Just do some little things as a role player.

As for Vessley, one of the differences between him and other euros is the style of play he brings to the table. He is a fast, athletic above the rim type guy. He isn't one of these big, slow, only want to shoot from the outside players.

Now, this doesn't mean he will be a good pro but his game is more pro style than most euros.

Also, unlike most Euros, he can't shoot a lick. It was a weak draft and other than trading up for Williams there really wasn't a guy left at 6 who I think was clearly better either or has more upside. While I get the feeling he won't amount to much, I also can't blame the Wiz for the pick.

I'm surprised Singler slipped to the second round. Detroit is going to love him. He had trouble with his shot the 2nd half of the season, but he will get it back and be a versatile guy off the bench that can help a team in a bunch of different ways.

He dropped for 2 reasons:

1) He isn't a consistent shooter
2) Lack of athleticism.

That being said, he does a lot of things well and should definitely help an NBA team.

He is a better defensive player than he gets credit for as well.
