So my AC is acting up now. Very little clod air coming out of the registers, and the unit in the basement appears to be icing up. The filter is new/clean, so I'm guessing it's low on coolant.
The problem is, no one has any appointments until Monday...and, it's supposed to be 100 degrees all week.
Does anyone have any recommendations on someone competent who could get out here sooner and fix this?

I've used B&B before, and have no complaints, but you probably called them already. They give first priority to people with service contracts, so you might be able to get them out sooner by agreeing to buy one, if you can't find anyone else.

It could be a dirty indoor coil. If you don't know what you're doing. don't touch it.

I know nothing...I touch nothing. I got someone coming out tomorrow. For now, I'll just sweat.

Sounds like the A-coil above the furnace is dirty. It really not that hard to do, but if you're not comfy cleaning it, then yeah, I"d wait too. You could also check you tube, watch a few videos to get an idea of how difficult it really is.

Who'd you get and how were they? My unit outside is starting to act up, I think its the motor. Right now the earliest appointment I could get is
for next Tuesday. I'm in the Linthicum area myself if anyone knows a place around my way.

Whats it doing? The fan not turning as fast as it used too? not cooling inside?

The fan in the unit would turn off and when that happen the air blowing in side wouldn't be cool. It kicked back on a few times and when the fan was going again the air was cool. I bumped the thermostat temp up a few degrees so it wouldn't have to work much last night.

I'd highly recommend Amazing HVAC. They do fantastic work. http://www.amazinghvac.com

I'm not an HVAC guy by any means, but from dealing with my own problems the last few years, and not wanting to pay someone to fix simple things, I have picked up a few things. Mine did that a couple times last year too. From what I've read, there is a relay inside the compressor and when it overheats, it shuts the compresssor off until it cools down, then it will kick on again. My unit was getting full sun for about 6 hrs, so, I put a beach umbrella over it, not on it, for shade, and I would run my sprinkler on the coils to keep it cool. Not a fix, but a band aid till someone looks at it. If the fan is off but the compressor is running, could be the fan motor or a capacitor for the fan motor. A capacitor is less than 5 bux, and a new fan motor is less than 100. Becarefull with capacitors though, they do hold a charge. Like I said, I'm not an HVAC tech, just a little mechanically inclined. And make sure there isnt any power going to the unit if you do decide to do any work yourself.

Thanks for the link McLovin! I called these guys this afternoon and I've got an appointment for tomorrow morning! Could've even got a visit tonight, but that would've cost extra and since it's not too hot out today, I decided to wait. Thanks again!

I actually got a guy who's a "friend of a friend", but doesn't normally work in this area (or your area).

Turns out my unit needed a new compressor. Took him about an hour from start to finish and after that I was good to go!

So they took good care of you? I went to grade school with the owner, and we're still good friends. His team put my entire system in, and they treat it like a work of art - making sure cable and pipe lines are nice, neat, and clean.

I guess b/c my problem (just replacing the compressor on the outside unit) wasn't too major that they just sent one guy to work on it. But he was very professional and answered any questions that we had. Great job from start to finish.
