The Post had a good primer this morning on how the defense should look this season. One thing I learned was that Jarvis Jenkins will be on the left side rotating in for Carriker.

So right now, it looks like the defense will look like this:

LDE-Carriker
NT- Cofield
RDE - Bowen
LOLB - Kerrigan
LILB - Fletcher
RILB - Riley
ROLB- Orakpo
SS - Landry
FS - Otagwe
CB - Hall
CB - Wilson

Depth:
DL: Jenkins, Bryant, (Neild?, Holliday?) (3 or 4)
LB: Wilson, Alexander, Blades, Henson, White? Jackson? (4 or 5)
CB: Westbrook, Barnes, (Boise St draft guy) (2-3)
S: Horton, Gomes, Moore, Daughty (2-3)

I'd like for them to add some depth at corner and bring back Buchanan.

Any other thoughts out there as to what you think they'll do?

I think Alexander replaces Riley on your list (and Henson would be ahead of him if he were healthy). With Blades resigning I think Riley gets cut. I agree on an extra corner though, I'd feel a lot better with another established guy to play out there with Hall and Wilson.

They have Riley with the first team though I don't think Blades can practice until Thursday with the other FAs. Henson's on the PUP right now. Although you may be right and Alexander earns the starting spot, I like him more as a versatile back-up, who could play all line-backer spots and play on the line in passing downs.

They also signed a UFA from Michigan who plays inside. Maybe they find a diamond in the rough there.

I wonder if they'll look at pairing Tatupu with Fletcher in the middle....

Take Holliday of the list as he was traded. That's 3 flimflam who have been traded, 2 cut, and a FA who hasn't been brought back.

He's in for a meeting tomorrow. So is CB Kelvin Hayden. I must have missed a bunch today at work. Also resigned Buchanon, signed K Shayne Graham, and last week we signed P Sav Rocca. Very interesting.

Good! Tatupu and Fletcher with Riley as backup would make me feel better.

I still think Riley gets cut, if Tatupu signs, I'd put money on it. Alexander will be one backup, Henson is more explosive than Riley so when he gets healthy, he'd get the nod. Blades was just resigned so I guess they like him over both of them. I can't see them keeping everyone, especially with so much turnover on the DLine, and keeping the extra secondary player this year.

Like the Buchanan signing. I wonder if the Hayden talk was to put the pressure on Phillip.

Hall
Wilson
Buchanan
Barnes
(Westbrook?)

Landry
Atogwe
Horton/Daughty
Moore
Gomes

I see them going with 10 in the secondary.

I like the Buchanan signing as well though it is being reported today that he will be suspended by the nfl for the first 4 games.

Yeah, that's not a good thing to do. Is there any word whether or not its PEDs or recreational drugs?

EDIT: Welcome to the board by the way.

Looks like they knew about the suspension prior to signing him. Maybe there is some truth to the Hayden interest.

Suspension was from very end of last season, recreational.

I see. Well, the Redskins were playing like a recreational league team towards the end of last season, so I guess that makes some strange amount of sense. :)

Golston is back. May be in the mix to make the 53

Replaces Holliday in your previous assessment. Great for depth I think. Read J. Jenkins has been the most impressive player in camp. Might get a decent pass rush this year.

Yeah, it depends on where the counts are this season for the units. Do they keep 9 or 10 DBs? I'd imagine they'd keep 9 LBs. So then it's either 6 or 7 DLs. I'm assuming they do a 25/25 ratio for offense/defense. With Cofield as a guy who could theoretically play either NT or DE, I figure they'll have both Nield and Bryant and carry 3 other DEs. But they may end up being thin in other positions. For example they may carry 9 DBs with either Barnes or Gomes being able to fill in at CB or Safety.

I thought Golston could do well in a 4-3 system elsewhere. I like the dude, good locker room guy, but I wouldn't want him penciled in as a starter like last year. Like you said, good depth.

Doughty and Rocky are back too. I've reading that Markus white has been doing well. Seems like a lot of competition at lb.

Yeah that's what I'm guessing. I mean Rocky could have been a depth thing, but with Riley, Henson and Alexander all in the mix as backups that wouldn't make any sense if they sign Lofa too. He probably wanted a ton of money. I would have done it thinking forward to the day Fletcher hangs em up.

Henson cut. Fox from Pitt signed. Evidently he was their ST captain. Might battle for a starting spot.
