The Bowie playoff race thread

9/1 -- Bowie wins 3-1 and Richmond loses 8-0 as the Baysox regain 2nd place:

Bowie 73-64
Richmond 73-65

Oliver Drake with 5 strong innings for Bowie tonight.

Bowie closes the season with 4 home games against Erie, while Richmond closes with a 4-game road set against Altoona. Those are the worst 2 teams in the division.

It's not clear to me what happens if the two teams end the season 1/2 game apart -- does Bowie have to play the game that got rained out, or do they just shrug and let the team that's ahead go to the playoffs? I would assume it's the latter.

From what I was told and have read somewhere, that rained out game in Trenton is just as if it did not exist....(guessing it was the Baysox website).

Altoona whipped up on the Baysox quite good. Now it looks like Erie is wanting to do the same after last nights thumping of 7-2. Bowie is now in 3rd place. It appears that this will maybe come down to the last game on Monday.

Here's hoping Bowie can Win and Richmond can lose against Altoona. GO BAYSOX.

The Miclat injury has hurt however I must say the pitching and hitting has all went south at the wrong time. It is very frustrating for those of us who follow this team to look at the last 11 games of the season with a smile earlier in the year. Of those 11 games all of them are against last place teams (Erie and Altoona) and the final 7 at home. Now it seems a nightmare because these teams are not playing like last place teams and the Sox are not hitting. They still have a chance and I hope they can win the next 3 games and Richmond loses to Altoona.

After losing the first two to Erie, the Baysox won yesterday and gained a game on Richmond, leaving them a half-game out going into the final day of the regular season. Bowie has to win today and Richmond has to lose for Bowie to make the playoffs.

Bowie won today, but so did Richmond, leaving Bowie .5 games out of the playoffs. That's a shame, but good to see Bowie go out on a winning note.

A raw deal for the Baysox.

Richmond got a lucky break today, but so did the Baysox. Diaz did not record an out, gave up a run, and had two runners on base before the rain came and gave Bowie the win today:

If Richmond lost their game, they would have a similiar gripe to what we have now.

Edit: I realize that in Bowie's case though, Erie did have equal at-bats. It is just a shame that the weather didn't allow either game today to play out over 9 innings, and that a missed game by Bowie may have ended up costing them a playoff spot.

As bitter as I am with the Eastern League officials particularly after the "Travis Hefner" Rehab assignment at Akron during the 2009 playoffs and the called game last month inTrenton in which we were ahead in the 5th inning I have to say the Baysox did themselves in by losing 8 of the last 12 games against statistically the two worst teams (Erie and Altoona) in the Western Conference. The entire team had no clue which end of the bat to use at home plate. A complete collapse of the hitters. So I tip my cap to Richmond and Harrisburg and wish them both luck in the playoffs. Get some rest Baysox. Hopefully a nice organizational house cleaning is in the making.

I needed a few days to sit back and reflect on what has happen in the pass week. I would have to say the bats needed to step up but, didn't at the right times. Neither did the arms. They both fell short. So, one can say the Eastern League officals sdrewed the Bowie Baysox, Maybe! But, they really didn't help their self at the end. I was enjoying the ride while I could. I distinctly recall a thread from late April or May where a poster said that Bowie was the worst minor league team he had ever seen. So, all things considered, it was a pretty good season for the Baysox.
