Guthrie had a solid year despite the horrible record.

Not the greatest results, but he ate a good chunk of innings.

I gave him a D. Again, like Nick, that's a bit harsh, but 95 ERA+ is clearly below average, and by his own personal standards, Jeremy has been better in 3 of his previous 4 seasons. Just like Nick, if there had been a C- available, that's where I would have put Jeremy.

I gave him a solid C. Might have gone C+ considering he's an AL East pitcher. ERA+ of 95 = ok.

C- is what I would give him.

In a down offensive year, he should have been better.

I think the losing really wears on him though.

Guthrie provided almost the exact production I projected prior to the season. He is what he is: a guy who will give you 200+ IP of a "true-talent" ~4.40 ERA, give or take a run due to all the factors that make ERA unreliable. Aside from a down year in 2009, Guthrie has had a FIP between 4.40 and 4.60 every season as an Oriole.

One noticeable thing about Guthrie this year:

- 11 walks in his first 11 starts (3.24 ERA)
- 55 walks in his last 21 starts (4.94 ERA)

Not sure what happened to his command/control.

A (C-) would be a C, just like it would be in school.

I agree that i would assess each at C- if the option was available.

Command/ COntrol has always been Guthrie's biggest bugaboo when he's going bad. It's what really hurt him in '09. Overall, again for me it's a C.

Well, I'm in a stingy mood. ERA+ of 95 and a 9-17 record = D, when only letter grades are available. Imagine what I think of the rest of the starting pitchers!

I have to give him a B. Guthrie is what we expected him to be.

B grade here too. I understand the low grades and the reasoning is solid, but I am thinking of what we would have been without his innings. The replacement pitcher(s) record probably would not have been much worse, but the actual outcomes of the games and effect on our bullpen would have been tough to watch.

Guthrie rebounded during his last few starts in September, but otherwise I voted him a D.

I think he really got scared that he might lose 20 games!

One thing I'm grateful for is that the last two years he's brought the homer totals down to 25 and 26 in 209.3 and 208 innings respectively. It was a horror show in 2009 when he was getting shelled for 35 HRs (in 200 IPs).

Remember when he first came up with the O's and was dominant for something like 11 or so starts, lots of Ks, low Walk and HR totals? We thought we had an ace. I guess at that point he needed to develop one more pitch and it never happened....

He's probably more of a C+ for me, and overall I thought he pitched to his potential, but it seems too many times he ends up giving up just enough runs to lose a game. He got some of the worse run support around and overall he did well, but I guess I just expect that he should be able to pitch to a mid three ERA.

I went with a C.

I do not know if the stats back this up, but it sure seems to me like:

A) He gives up a lot of runs with 2 outs, and

B) He often gives up runs immediately after the Orioles have scored runs for him.

Just seems like he's really close to being a good #2 guy in a rotation, he just always falls a bit short.
