So Ryan Fitzpatrick, who has never won a damn thing and until recently was a 7th round journeyman, just got a 6 year $59M contract with $24M guaranteed. So what does this mean for Joe? Well first off here are their career stats:

RF

Att: 1377
Comp: 813
%: 59
Yds: 8,581
TDs: 56
Ints: 48
Rat: 76.3

JF

Att: 1627
Comp: 988
%: 60.7
Yds: 11,621
TDs: 68
Ints: 39
Rat: 86.4

It is obvious that Flacco has the much better stats, he has won more and is the far more physically talented player. Also keep in mind that Fitzpatrick has only been a fulltime starter the last couple of years so his stats over a longer career are a bit middling.

So with all that I would say that this was a very risky contract by Buffalo but one that I would have loved to see Flacco get. However, Flacco's agent is going to use this as leverage and say he has to get more than a guy that has only had success in the last couple of years. This doesn't bode well for Ravens who may end up having to invest more than they had hoped into Joe.

Now don't get me wrong, I am a Flacco supporter and believe he should be paid handsomely for his production. I just don't want to see him get some ridiculous contract. What say you?

This is the type of contract that is being given out for that second or third teir QBs...guys like Cassel got that deal.

I would think Joe would be expecting more than this.

Kolb got $65 million over 6 years from Arizona and Rivers signed a 6 year $92 million extension in San Diego two years ago. I think somewhere in the middle would be right for Flacco. 5 years at $60-62 Million, 6 years at 70 or so. Something like that.

Recent QB contracts......

Fitzpatrick (10/28/2011) - 7 years $62 million (24 guaranteed)
Vick (8/29/2011) - 7 years $100 million (35.5 guaranteed)
Kolb (7/29/2011) - 6 years $65 million (21.5 guaranteed)
Brady (9/9/2010) - 5 years $78.5 million (48.5 guaranteed)
Rivers (8/24/09) - 7 years $98 million (38 guaranteed)
Eli Manning (8/13/2009) - 7 years $107 million (35 guaranteed)
Rodgers (10/31/2008) 6 years $65 million (20 million guaranteed)
Roethlisberger - (3/3/2008) 8 years $102 million (33 guaranteed)

No one can even guess what Joe is in line for until the year is over and we see where he ends up and how he plays. He is either going to make himself some money or cost himself some over the next 3 months. Only time will tell.
