Nick Piecoro of the Arizona Republic reports that multiple teams have expressed interest in left-hander Joe Saunders, including the Red Sox.The Diamondbacks acquired Trevor Cahill from the Athletics on Friday, which suddenly makes Saunders a potential trade chip. The 30-year-old left-hander is coming off a superficially impressive season, so Arizona will have to hope some team might be willing to take on the roughly $8-9 million he'll make in arbitration next season. He's very hittable, so we don't see him doing well in Boston or the American League East. Dec 9 - 8:56 PM

I have to agree that a soft tosser wouldn't do well here, but I saw his name and remember seeing there was some interest in taking him on potentially

I would offer Brad Bergeson, Jo-Jo Reyes and Brandon Snyder for Joe Saunders, Tyler Skaggs (Hi-A) LHP and Brandon Allen (AAA)1B. Neither Skaggs and Allen are on the D-Backs 40 man roster.
The O's pick up 5-6 mil to their payroll in Saunders however get a pitcher that has pitched over 180 innings each for the past 4 yrs. Also drop 2 players from the 40 man roster.

Is this a serious idea of what you'd think it would take to get that package from AZ, or are you inebriated?

You want to set the record for fastest hang-up?
Skaggs was a top-100 prospect before the season who had a really nice year getting to AA. Brandon Allen was traded for Brad Zeigler.

Why would we want Joe Saunders for the amount of money he'll cost next year?
MLB Trade Rumors projects him to earn (http://www.mlbtraderumors.com/2011/12/dbacks-may-trade-joe-saunders.html) $8.7m in Arbitration next year. Then again, it looks like the Red Sox are scrambling (https://twitter.com/#!/nickpiecoro/statuses/145313180292362240) to find a response to the Eveland acquisition, so based on the logic that historically intelligent organizations usually make intelligent moves... maybe he's worth a look?
He'll also be a FA at the end of next season. This is a guy for whom you REALLY don't trade anyone of value.
Here's a comparison of his career ML stats with Eveland (just for fun):
Dana Eveland 360.1 IP, 5.52 ERA, 4.38 FIP, 4.70 xFIP, 5.94 K/9, 4.50 BB/9, 0.62 HR/9
Joe Saunders 986.2 IP, 4.16 ERA, 4.65 FIP, 4.52 xFIP, 5.02 K/9, 2.87 BB/9, 1.13 HR/9
He's a veteran I'd expect to give me 180-200 IP at the ML level next year. I doubt they would be much better than replacement level in the AL East, certainly not enough to warrant the contract.

Skaggs is in Oakland now.
Actually, they didn't include him in that deal. Jarrod Parker, Collin Cowgill and Ryan Cook went to the A's.

I'd call and offer them Henry, Miclat, Martin and Hensen.

OK, something you do not see on this board alot. I admit I overreached on Skaggs. I was looking at BA and they have pre-2011 season top tens for teams. However on MLB Dirt Skaggs is nbr 3.
MY aim was to get better pitching (Joe Saunders) and since we we taking 5-6 mil dollars to add to our minors. Also to send our young pitching to Norfolk for 1/2 yr or whole yr (depending on mid seasons trades). Hoping to move Saunders at the A/S break. We need to start playing the game better.
Someone tell me who we are going to trade and or sign that is not going to start another 20 plus page thread.

He might have been a type B under the old system. Now you have to be insane to trade for a back end guy mid season, offer him arbritration, and still get no pick if he is foolish enough to sign elsewhere. The new CBA has some wrinkles.

The Orioles need to clean some of the deadwood out of the 40 man and rid the team of a pricey closer who cannot get the job done!

A good comparison for fanasty baseball but a lousy one for real basball!

I agree. Joe will give you 200 innings but in the AL East he is probably no better than 4.25 ERA on a really good year but more likely 4.60 ERA. I think the O's fans will get real tire of watching him get beat around.

QS was !8/33,and i would take a 4.25 era if his QS % is around 60.He would be a upgrade!
