It's early in the season, but it seems really weird and borders on insanity. About the only good thing I can say is they got a day off, but they're bouncing across three time zones in a weeks time, not to mention it includes traveling to the West Coast. I can only hope to get a job in MLB as a scheduler so I can wield this much crazy power and make up schedules that seem to be coming out of nowhere.

Buck was a little sarcastic about it in the post game. Bottom line, when you suck for 15 years, you get dumped on. Amazing they are expected to play ten games without a day off and do it in three time zones. I haven't seen Angelos say anything about anything in years but maybe someone could wake him up and have one of his underlings threaten to sue:)

I'd make every MFY road trip at least this bad.

I never liked the idea of the Orioles having road trips. I really wish that they would just play all 162 games at home at Oriole Park, and keep it simple. That way, they wouldn't have to be bothered with plane flights, hotel reservations, etc. OPACY a really nice stadium, it's a great atmosphere ......... what's the big deal ???

I'm not sure you appreciate the difficulty in making a MLB schedule. I'm pretty sure they still have people do it manually, because there are so many variables that it doesn't make sense to try to fully automate it. Travel times, interleague play, unbalanced scheduling, Ted Nugent concerts at your stadium during the season, Ted Nugent concert riots, accommodations for TV, making sure the NFL isn't playing next door at the same time... it's not trivial.

Think about how much more difficult it's going to be when Houston goes to the AL.
Just to nitpick, the NFL schedule doesn't affect the MLB schedule as it's created after the baseball season has started. It may affect playoff starts, but not the regular season.

I don't mind it. Going to see the game on Sunday. But I was surprised to see them come out so early.

Are we going to be complaining about the schedule making next month when from May 7th to the 27th they have essentially 18 home games (15 at OPACY plus 3 games with the Nats in DC) and only 2 road games in KC? Thats probably way more absurd than a measly 10 game 3 time zone road trip, both in the fact that they have to travel out to KC just for 2 games and then come back and that they have a stretch of 18 out of 20 games basically at home.

We'd never wear the awesome black cartoon bird hats with the orange bill if we didn't travel.

I thought it was good to have in April. Gets it out of the way early and will provide better atttendence
In the season with less Alril home games.
And let's their wives finish setting up shop.

This is when we'll make out move. We need to win 16 of those 18 games! :D

Whats the big deal? They played a day game, I am sure they were in LA by 9PM. Plenty of time to adjust to a 2 hour time zone. They get the day off on the back end of trip.

So, if I'm reading you correctly, we should kill Ted Nugent and then that'd make the scheduling a million times easier.

Found some interesting articles on actually how it's done now of days. Looks like MLB took the bulk of the task in house the last couple of years and uses some computer consultants to help create the initial schedule:
http://cincinnati.reds.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20120123&content_id=26438868&vkey=news_cin&c_id=cin
Before that from 1981-2004 a husband and wife team did the schedule by hand. Then it got contracted out to a statistic professor and consultant in 2005.
