You know what. I am personally sick of Mazzilli's management of his starting pitchers. This game was winable up until he allowed Lopez to face Ramirez.

He consistently leaves his starters in games even though its clear they don't have quality stuff until the game is completely out of reach instead of going to the pen when there is still a chance of salvaging the game.

As soon as Lopez gave up 5 in the 2nd, he should have gotten prepared to go to the pen the next time Rodrigo got into trouble. It makes no sense to wait until AFTER the starter grooves a pitch for a 3 run home run to lift him.

It is no coincidence that the O's have given up 50 runs in five of their losses (probably now ~60 runs in 6 games including this one) where Mazz has tried to milk his starter too far into the game even though it was obvious they weren't fooling anyone.

When your team is fighting its way back into a game like this, you have to do everything in your power to keep the other team from scoring again. We have an off day Thursday and a probable rain out tomorrow, so there's NO excuse for "saving the pen". As soon as Nixon walked, I would have brought Williams (even though he pitched last nite - he's good for a batter here) in to face Manny and then Parrish to face Ortiz - you have to like your chances of getting out of the inning with those match ups without giving up a run.

I wonder what the heck Mazz is thinking in situations like this.

bluedog

For those of you who can't see this game, Tejada laced a double down the third base line, and it was INCORRECTLY called foul. Next pitch...Homerun!

6 unanswered runs to take the lead. Our bullpen and lineup can carry this team alone. We don't need starting pitching. But, we're gonna get quite a few good starts with our staff anyways. If we can end April 2+ games in the lead, that would be fantastic.

These guys are completly unlike any minor or major league Oriole team I have watched and I have been a fan since 1948.

The early years with Paul Richards were pitching and defense and a hope that we would score a couple of runs to win.

The next fun era was Weaver and his three run home runs.

But these guys today just don't know when to quit. They keep on having one and two run innings with a few bigger innings thrown in and before the other team knows it they are losers and the Orioles are celebrating another win.

I am a believer!
