Osrock2005
05-17-2005, 08:04 PM
Well it's Lima time for the Royals, let's hope we can take advantage of that. Since we're in Kansas City Ponson hasn't gotten the oppurtunity to drive to New York to get drunk before his start, unless he's a very fast driver. ;) :D
Why Not?
05-17-2005, 08:05 PM
Screech is in the lineup again today. I wonder if his playing everyday was the plan all along or if it's simply impossible to take him out with the way he's hitting.
I'm surprised Bigbie isn't back in the lineup yet.
Is Bigbie still nursing that hamstring or he has finally just played his way out of the lineup?
Mackus
05-17-2005, 08:12 PM
They said he's 100%, but with the way fiorentino has hit, and Newhan and Surhoff coming off of big games, I'm not surprised he's not starting.
He'll be back in there plenty though.

Settle down kids, it's just a three-run hole with 24 outs left. Not ideal, but not too bad either. This IS Kansas City after all.
Ponson always sprinkles a few of these stinker starts in betwen the quality ones. We shall overcome.

Out of curiosity, how many of you wanted to get rid of Sid last week when he outpitched Johan Santana?
Sid terrible but fairly economical in the 1st inning. Five runs and six hits on only 24 pitches. That's not easy to do.

You can have all of the 5-1 cancers you want, but if I could jettison this loser from the team I would do it immediately. The only reason he has a winning record is because the offense has been tearing the cover off of the ball when he pitches.

Now we know why Parrish rarely pitches...
Or could his ineffectiveness be because he never pitches? He's always pitched better when he pitches regularly. Hence the move to the bullpen from a starting spot. He needs to pitch regularly to be effective and pitching once every 17 games is not going to do it.

You're right. I'm not usually hyper-critical of players, but Javy's skills behind the plate are lacking at times.
Seems like anything that hits the ground squirts away from him. He's made it pretty clear that he wants to catch less often. One wonders if he realizes his abilities there are fading. It could be that his batting slump has him in a funk with the glove as well.

Ponson is the epitome of keeping reality in check.
It does seem that everytime he's coming off of a really great start and people are saying that maybe he's turned the corner that he lays an egg.
Similarly, it seems that whenever people start writing him off as a useless waste, goes out and outpitches a Cy Young winner.
If I was a gambler, I'd never put any money down on a game that Sidney was involved in.

Parrish will walk two and strike out three this inning.
With Riley gone and Parrish not pitching often, I forgot about that snap throw to first base. I can't put into words (or at least not words that I can say on the board) how much I hate that snap throw. They throw it into the bleachers just as often as they throw it to teh first baseman.

How much of the BS Sidney pulls is a direct result of what he knows he can get away with from the manager and the team?

Well, the good news is, the O's had a comeback on this kind of scale against this team a week ago. The bad news is, we all found out that KC has some decent arms for the seventh through ninth. If this comeback doesn't happen in the next three innings, it might not happen at all.

Anyway, the Orioles simply win on May 17th. I know, because it's my birthday.

Great minds think alike, Tony. I know Parrish has been extremely shaky but I think you have to get at least one more inning out of him in this situation. If Maz doesn't have any more confidence in him than this, he can't be on the staff.

Suffer through his perfomances every fifth game???
Here's our starters this year:
Lopez: 2-1 4.47 era
Bedard: 4-1 2.35 era
Cabrera: 3-2 4.93 era
Ponson: 5-1 4.93 era
Chen: 4-2 3.38 era
Well I personally don't think we've had to suffer through Cabrera or Lopez and their era's are similar, and they all have about the same amount of innings (Ponson 3 less than Lopez, Cabrera 3 less than Ponson). All of them have had good games, and some not so good games. It seems to me like people just want to hate Ponson. I don't understand, I like the guy and think he can help the team. He's a big guy undoubtedly, but there have been plenty of pitchers that are overweight and effective, plus he came to Spring Training this year 20 pounds less than last year if I remember correctly. I know he has bad games, and I accept that from a #3 or #4 starter, which he is.
