African watering hole camera (http://live.wildlife.wavelit.net/451OK)

It took me forever to get to bed last night because I was afraid I'd miss a lion-on-giraffe attack.

Haha, that's pretty cool. If I'm just talking to people on the comp at night I'll keep it up. If anything cool happens I'll take a screen shot and post it :p

And as for now, will this antelope/impala do something, PLEASE?!?!?

Occasionally the camera is moved around, so maybe they will get a shot of the people.

I forwarded the link to my department and I think it's safe to say there ain't jack squat gettin' done around here for the rest of the afternoon.

I heard what sounded like a flute of some kind for about 2 minutes earlier, but aside from bugs that's all I've spotted so far. Listening to the sounds of nature though is oddly de-stressing.

It took me forever to get to bed last night because I was afraid I'd miss a lion-on-giraffe attack.

That would be an extremely rare attack, unless it was a baby giraffe.

Lions, hyenas, and cheetah's usually keep their distance from giraffes.

They will usually feast on wildebeests or an occasional zebra (zebras are harder to catch than the very stupid wildebeests).

The Giraffe's hoof is like a plate of steel and they have very powerful legs, obviously. A kick from a giraffe to the head of an attacking animal is usually a fatal blow.

Can't believe they don't charge for this.

They have this website where they have mounted cameras on deer, and for 10 dollars a month you can watch what the deer are doing they have them mounted on a bunch of different deer. Then at the end of each day they put together a 3 minute video or so of the best action of that day.

Sounds pretty cool I was thinking about trying it out. 10 dollars for a month of following deer around during mating season, who would ever leave they computer? :D

I was just thinking the same thing....

I need to get my African webcam fix before bed.

Hrm. That sounded a bit odd, didn't it?

I should have known it wasn't a good idea to check out this thread while I was having breakfast. I don't know, the biscuits and sausage gravy suddenly started tasting a little different.

When are the best times to catch some wild life on here. I check in every couple of days at different times but have yet to see anything other than a few birds/bats.

Hank Scorpio
12-14-2006, 05:03 PM
Well, if it's operational, check it first thing in the morning or the last thing you do before you go to sleep. I think if you check it late at night, it's just daybreak over there. That's probably your best bet.

She left and a group of hyenas wandered around a little and now she or a different lioness is back. I must be lucky cause there have been animals passing through from the minute I logged on.

I turned it on this morning and they've been eating the whole time. Happened last night, I heard it but it was not visible on the camera.

Almost had a lion/hyena fight, but that didn't happen.

Still really cool! What are the odds of this happening on the cam?

I am so glad you would not let the thread die. I did not get in on the action when this was first happening, but I have read all the post about it and am watching it right now, nothing on camera, but lots of noise and the camera is panning about quite often.

This is awesome stuff.....now I will have a panda cam or two and a wildlife cam running all the time. I know the panda's are fun to watch when they are active, I can just imagine how cool this will be when I manage to catch some views of animals....

What's the address for your favorite panda cam?

Washington DC: 19 month old Tai Shan and mom Mei Xiang:

http://nationalzoo.si.edu/animals/giantpandas/default.cfm?ref=giantpandas.htm

2 cameras.....link under the camera veiw will take you to another camera.....one is usually focused on Tai at all times.........unless he is up a tree that the camera can't get to. 15 minute limits....so you have to keep clicking to keep a running view. Also a link on that page for the Amimal Planet camera that I used to launch and keep on top all the time. I watched this little treasure grow from a cub on day one to his nearly 100 lb size now....by far my favorite bear, he knows he rules the land at the National Zoo.
The camera follows Tai and mom around all day.....until about 7:PM or...then it is fixed on the inside enclosures and in b&w til about 7: am

Mei Xiang was a first time mom with Tai and they are hoping for another cub this summer.

San Diego Zoo: 18 month old Su Lin,

http://www.sandiegozoo.com/zoo/ex_panda_station.html

This camera is mostly stationary, so if the panda's don't park themselvs in front...you don't get to see them near as much as with the DC camera that roams with the bears. This is mom's 3rd cub.

Atlanta Zoo: 5 month old Mei Lan,

http://www.zooatlanta.org/home.htm

This camera is live from 10:am til 5:pm M-F only, but if you can catch her live.......she is just adorable and showing that she is going to be a handful for first time mom Lun Lun
they provide lots of links to pics and video's and dialy updates on her progress.

To me...these are the most adorable animals ever. If I ever hit the lotto......I would do 2 things.....attend a game in every MLB park in America and go to China's Conservation reserves

I have to get used to this again. I had it open in another tab and forgot it was on, so I had the TV on and suddenly there's this horrible screeching sound coming from my computer or maybe a bug hiding behind it for all I knew. About 2 minutes of searching before I remembered this was up:002_scool:
