View Full Version : UPDATED 4/25 :Taking back the Yard: Hangout Nights at Camden Yards

Tony-OH
04-11-2007, 02:06 PM
Do you hate when the Red Sox and Yankees roll into town and their fans take over Camden Yards? Do you feel Camden Yards needs to be filled with enthusiastic Orioles fans rooting the home team on to victory? Do you like to hangout with a great group of loud, rambunctious Orioles fans? Well so do we.

This season, the Hangout has teamed up with the Orioles to provide our Hangouters with a Hangout Night at the Yard each month throughout the season. We selected key Red Sox and Yankees games (and one Indian game since neither the Red Sox or Yankees come to town in May) and our hope is to fill up section 384 with as many loud rabid Orioles fans as we can. We’ll be starting chants, spell out O-R-I-O-L-E-S and make sure everyone in Camden Yards knows this is Orioles fan country, regardless of our record.

Each game we will give out 16 free tickets and the rest of the seats will be just $8 for upper reserve box seats (regularly $15) and $6 for upper reserve (regularly $13). All you have to do is call Paul Stefano with the Orioles at (410) 547-6288 and ask for the tickets in the Hangout Section for the date you want. You call up to the day of the game, but you must call ahead, you can't get these prices at the box office. As you know about Yankees and Red Sox games, these tickets will go fast so don't delay, let's load these up with rabid Orioles fans.

We’ll meet up prior to the game at Edgar's on Pratt Street to hand out tickets (to the people who got the free ones), have a few drinks, and to prepare. Any tickets not picked up by 6:45 will be given away.

Let’s show the Orioles what rabid Orioles fans sound like on those Red Sox and Yankee games. Obviously we want to see as many Hangouters out there as possible, but this is for all Orioles fans so please spread the word. All Orioles fans are invited and encouraged to have a rip-roaring good time in section 384. So let’s take back the Yard, one section at a time.

Ok, here's who has has the free Hangout tickets.....

Uhhhh, maybe this is a stupid question but.......

When one calls to order the tickets, how do they "prove" that they are O's fans? What's to stop any/all Yanks and Sux fans from using this info to get tickets for themselves and ruin our "Take Back the Yard" party?

Theoretically nothing. But the Orioles are going to hold this section of tickets away from general public consumption until they run out of other areas. Hopefully we will fill it up with Orioles fans. Besides, how many Yankee and Red Sox fans are going to want to be surrounded by a section filled with loud, rabid Orioles fans? They'll have plenty of other sections to pick from. :)

I understand. I was thinking "Hmmm -- all of this pertinent info is now out on the 'Net for their fans, as well as ours, to use." I was just a bit concerned that's all -- 'specially since guests to this site can get the info without being a Hanger-outer.

Sounds like this idea is the anti-WNST protest, no? ;)

July 27th is looking like a good night for my bachelorette party. :D

WitchyThe ticket taker will ask you Orioles and Hangout questions, like was done with Baltimore Colts questions in the movie Diner. If you get the answers right, the ticket taker will let you buy the tickets. I suggest the following questions:

1. Who is SportsGuy's favorite trade target?
2. What pitcher would Sapper have acquired after the 2004 season?
3. According to Hangout consensus, how many relief pitchers should be on the Orioles roster in 2007?

:D

4. As between BaltimoreTerp and NewMarketSean, which one is more likely to say that Sam Perlozzo made good use of his bullpen the previous day?

5. Does Garrett Olson have the best change-up in the Orioles minor league system, or is it merely adequate?

6. Who knows more about baseball statistics, Jon Wilt or DrungoHazewood?

I sent a note. It went basically like....My dad was a childhood Red Sox fanin his childhood...we became diehard Oriole fans when we moved to York when I was seven that was 41 years ago. I can not see any Oriole games in Harrisburg on TV. Comcast cable does not carry MASN here and we are in an Angelos blackout area. I must go to work to even see them on my mlb.com account. I would Love to go to an early season game and Promise to bring a total fan as I am myself!

Tony,

Love the idea and I plan to be there whether I win the free tickets or not. First, where do we submit our paragraph to? Second, if we buy the $6 ticket do we pick it up at the meeting place before the game or through the usual route?

Thanks.....looking forward to hanging out with real fans,

You can put your repsonse in this thread or send it via e-mail to me or Scott.

As for the tickets, if you buy them ahead of time they will send them to you I believe or put them in will call (whatever you want). The free tickets would have to be picked up at our meeting place.

Good idea. I think it's about time we get some more people out to games.

We need some more black and orange representation & people who care about the team in the stands.

However, in my honest opinion, it's too bad it has come to this. Not the say the idea is bad at all or disparage it, but it shows how much things have changed & how apathetic fans are now.

I see the crowd at Opening Day versus the games this week and ask myself what has happened...

No, you must call the number we listed and ask for Hangout tickets. They will be mailed to you or put into will call whatever you prefer. Ticketmaster will not have any clue about this and then charge you their normal exuberant fee on top of full price for the ticket.

Why I should get two free tickets to the April 25th game:

First off, I plan to bring 6 rabid Orioles fans from Bethesda, MD and Washington, DC. We have all been loyal Baltimore fans since we were kids and we consider ourselves survivors of an area that has turned its back on the O's. Never have our allegiances strayed over the last 9 trying years. Recently, since we have entered the working world, it has been tough for all of us to get together to go to a game, but by chance this happens to be one we all plan to attend. Finally, there is nothing that steams me more than going to an O's vs Sox/Yanks game with a crowd that generally favors the opposing team.

Absolutely nothing. Go O's.

What is the availability for free tix at each Hangout Game at this point? If I can still get the free ones, here's why I should be able to go:

As 2632, Dr. Lev and others can attest, I am a diehard O's fan, knowledgeable, and loud! I am not afraid to make an ass out of myself for the O's (see: spelling out "ORIOLES" a la Wild Bill to a section full of Yankees fans last August). I get rowdy, but I do not get vulgar or inappropriate.

Baseball games are for cheering, standing and yelling, not sitting and crying in your beer.

Slightly worried about the rain too. We're not far out, so it's not a big deal for us. But any contingency plan if rain ruins the first big OH party of the season? Just wait til the next game?

IS, I hope the idea to get the tickets is so you can sit with these guys, not because they are "free".

You would be paying more to buy these jokers Beer than just buying the ticket yourself. :002_shappy:

Yeah, I am on the fence right now with this game tomorrow night, cause I have a little bit of a distance driving to the ballpark, and as much as I want to meet up with everyone from the Hangout and catch an O's game, I'm not going to sit in heavy rain all night which is what they are calling for.

So any contingency plan that will happen, will be appriciated.

Tony-OH
04-25-2007, 07:53 AM
Right now the weather looks iffy but I'm expecting the game to be played. They're calling for scattered showers and looking at the radar it appears the big portion of the rain is going to go North of us if the rain stays on the same track.

If you can not make Edgars and you have free tickets, you'll need to meet me at the #5 monument on Eutaw street at 6:50 or so for your tickets. But please, try and make it to Edgar's (Go across to the convention center, walk up to the skyway, walk across the skyway towards the verizon building and Edgar's is right there.) If you are not either at Edgar's or the #5 by 6:50 I'll have to give the tickets to someone else.

Everyone else, call (410) 547-6288 today for your discounted tickets. Imagine how loud we can be with a small crowd? A little rain never hurt anyone so come over and meet us at Edgar's and then let's take the yard back rain or shine!!!

Sorry if you provided this info already but about how many folks do you expect will be sitting in the section with all of us?

I'm hoping for a decent Oriole fan showing tonight, it gets so demoralizing when Red Sox fans outnumber us in OPACY. Its great that you're doing things to generate more Oriole fan attendance tonight.

Tony I have a quick question...

The special ticket pricing, is it only reserved for Orioles Hangout members only? Or is it alright to share the information to fellow Orioles Fans?

Reason im asking is this may be a good idea to spread the word around on facebook and im in a group for O's fans. There are about 1.5k members there so may be a good idea to spread the word about the special ticket pricing there to bring more O's fan out to the yard. Lemme know whatchu think
