View Full Version : Who is/was your most hated/feared "Oriole Killer"?
The thread about Frank Thomas got me thinking about this topic.
The Big Hurt put the hurt on us quite a bit throughout his career. He was especially fond of facing Mike Mussina, who he has owned to the tune of a 1.313 OPS with 9 HRs and 9 2Bs in a not very small sample size of 90 plate appearances.
I sat on the edge of my seat almost every time this guy came to the plate against us in the mid-90s. There were occasions where you just wanted to cover your face with your hands and watch through your fingers, he was that scary good.

Through the early to mid-90's, I think you have to include Juan Gonzalez.

Frank Thomas has to be up there. I remember him taking Gregg Olson DEEP back in the day. I mean, WAY deep.
Griffey Jr. always seemed to kill us...but back in the 90's Griffey was killin' everyone...

When I was a kid there were no more hated players in the Oriole world than Reggie and Goose.
I also had a love/hate relationship with George Brett and Dan Quisenberry. I really liked both players when they weren't playing the O's, but really hated to face them.
Jeffrey Maier.
I'll second that.
Does the 2007 O's bullpen count?

There was a stretch in the late 70s/early 80s when White Sox DH Lamar Johnson just destroyed the Orioles. We couldn't get the guy out and he always came up with big hits against us.

I didn't hate him, in fact respected his ability, but off the top of my head
Jim Rice seemed like he did a number on us way back when.
