Does anyone find the White Sox announcers as annoying as I do? Everytime there is a homerun- "Put it on the board....YES!!!"
Everytime there is a strikeout- "He gone!"
Listening to these announcers really makes me wish I had MASN.

Don't get me started. They're the worst. I'm not sure you could find a single person to disagree. Not even White Sox fans.

In fact, I'm pretty sure Hawk Harrelson beats himself over the head when he listens to his own broadcasts. It's gotta be an innate human reflex or something.

I think they (meaning Hawk) take homerism to the point where it's actually quite funny, so I don't mind it so much.

I found the old WPIX team for the Yanks to be waay more annoying.

Yeah, they absolutely piss me off to no end. When Chris Ray struck out the side the other night, after listening to those morons the entire night I yelled out, "HE GONE, B#^$!!"

Haha I actually wanted to watch this series on WGN just to hear their broadcasts. They're like a car accident; horrible, but you can't help yourself but stare.

I remember watching one year, one of them had actually said "Let's try to put a couple extra points on the board here." Uhh, they're called runs

They're all right but I haven't heard enough of Hawk to make a proper judgment. Of course , I have been known to be lenient in my opinions of broadcasters (I think Hunter is a great broadcaster) , so...:D

I think this incident during the Cubs/Sox series earlier this season is the most hilarious moment: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7pQnPczK5SY.

Apparently, the concept of obstruction doesn't ring with Hawk and DJ. The repeated exclamations of "BS!" is the best.

I know Im not the only one who thinks so....but Harrelson is the biggest homer of all time..and hes not even endearing like Harry Caray or Ron Santo.
He gets his facts wrong(the broadcast had Mora's injury from a foul tip..which we know it wasnt).
He calls the White Sox..'the good guys"...What are the opposing teams.?."the bad guys"?.
He openly roots for a ball to get out of the park...and constantly rails against the umpiring.
He calls runs"cookies'..As..."We get a cookie" in the third..and when the Orioles throw a bad pitch it's ' he had a cookie' he just missed....
He calls players by their first name" Pauly' for Konerko..or "Guchi" or Iguchi.
When he was a player, ironically 'Hawk" was a cool guy with a rebellious streak...Now hes just a shameless promoter.
Sorry Hawk...theres no watching you with a full stomach!

Other way around. Hawk at least has one redeeming quality.

I actually googled hawk "predators" last night after listening to that garbage. It was just down-right awful. Come to find out the only predators of hawks are humans and natural disasters. I had some pretty distasteful ideas brewing...

Although Hawk and DJ are bad having the extra innings package really lets you know how spoiled some fans are. I don't know what's worse, having to watch 20 year old graphics for a Royals game or listenning to the Mariners like it's a golf tournament.

Got to see the O's down here last night, thanks to WGN.

It was great seeing the comeback win, but my only complaint is...Good lordie, WGN is awful.

There's having coverage that appeals to the hometown fan base, and then there's listening to two guys who it sounds like they are in the bleachers two sheets to the wind trying to start a cheer for their team. The latter is WGN.

An actual excerpt:
Announcer #1: "Well, the home crowd seems to be energized tonight." Announcer #2: "Yes, but I don't think there's any crowd out there that matches the type of spirit White Sox fans have put into the game. Our fans have been absolutely fantastic, moreso than any other team in the league."

Screen shot of two random people dressed in White Sox gear surrounded by a sea of fans in black and orange: "Yes the White Sox fans are out in full force here in Baltimore tonight." (Note: Total lack of sarcasm here)

White Sox reliever Boone Logan is called out from the bullpen: "Come on Boone! Let's strike 'em out!" (Note: No accompanying announcer-type mention of the pitcher's stats or style. Just simply "Come on Boone!")

Plus Hawk Harrelson's trademarked (shiver) "Good guys" and "Put it on the board....Yes!" calls.

Am I a cruel person if I secretly wish Hawk Harrelson would develop permanent laryngitis? I'm not that bad, am I?

PeteU, they're the worst, imo opinion. Fortunately, this is the last game between the Chicago and the Orioles this season.

I asked this in the game thread.

When a Sox batter K's, does Hawk say "he gone"?

Contrast that w/a Mariners broadcast. I watch the M's here in the NW and too often do the announcers just go silent for like 10-15 seconds during the game. I mean, its dead air, then all of the sudden you hear the train horn as it goes by the stadium.

Usually when the White Sox are losing by a good margin Hawk and DJ will go silent for literally MINUTES at a time, instead of blathering like drunken hillbillies. It's like music to my ears.

Ha ha, that's great. Yeah, they ARE homers for sure.

I was at the game last night, sitting in front of two vocal but not real bright-sounding White Sox fans. One of them had a sign that said "Grinder ball rule #1: it's not how you start, it's how you finish." Is "grinder ball" some idiotic phrase Harrelson has recentlycooked up? And kind of a stupid sign to wave around when your team gets off to a 5-1 start. When the Sox blew the game, I hope they appreciated the irony.

Its amazing how bad some other announcers are. Since I have to watch whatever MLB.tv gives me I get to listen to these other guys. We have it lucky believe me

Dempsey is no better...He made a comment earlier today about Millar's high OBP and that you don't expect that from him.

HUh?

That is exactly what you expect from him.

Dempsey is flat out awful.

Dempsey may make ignorant statements a lot of times and bad jokes others, but he can't be slightly entertaining at times and isn't as bad a homer as the White Sox guys are.

I'm amazed that they still have jobs. Even most of the White Sox fan base hate them.

BTW, I was at the game today and there certainly did seem to be a large number of Sox fans there. Maybe they were just in my section but I was surprised by how many I heard.

I enjoy listening to The Hawk and D.J. Better yet was when Wimpy was the color guy there.

More fun with Hawk. On Thursday night he proclaimed Josh Fields as bound for the Hall of Fame. Seriously. He said of Fields... "Everything about him has Cooperstown written all over it." Of course, that was during a win. By Sunday when they were making excuses for losing 3 in a row, Hawk said that the biggest problem was losing Joe Crede to injuries.

So in conclusion:
Losing a guy with a career .750 OPS + replacing him with a future HOFer = losing season

Thanks Hawk.

Yeah and then when they were talking about the 83 ALCS, what was he babbling about in regards to Larussa and the White Sox? He said something about they were a great team that year and he led them to like 120+ wins that season.

I would have loved to hear these douche bags on Saturday night.

They were very silent, went quickly to commercial, and then came back and just read the credits. Very funny.

Watching them is like betting $1 million in Vegas. Hellova risk with huge downside if you lose, but very much worthwhile going through when you win.
