Can you explain the supplemental draft? ESPN said something to the effect of if you make a selection, you forfeit a corresponding pick in the regular draft next year. So does that mean that if you draft him in the first round, you lose a first round next year? So I guess you would pass until the 3rd round, and then draft Gaither?

Yea, that's how it works.

I wouldn't give up a first rounder for this guy but he probably has first round talent.

He's worth a first round pick, IMO. Especially because I doubt the Ravens will select within the top 25 next draft.

While the talent and athleticism are there, I think he's still too much of a "project" to be worth a 1st round pick right now..........rarely do teams pick a player in the first round who they don't think will contribute right away, except sometimes for QBs. Also, there may be concerns about a lack of commitment due to the fact that he was twice disciplined for violating team rules last season, lost his starting job, and could not remain academically eligible. That said, if he's still available when the Ravens' turn at the end of the third round comes up, I'd take him..........but no sooner than that.

As long as you have Ray, Reed, and the rest of the defense in place I don't worry about personal problems with a young player. The Ravens defensive leaders are some of the best at straightening guys out with problems.

That said, I don't throw away a first round pick ever, in the supplimental draft. You might do it with a later pick, but I would never want to risk having a bad season and not getting a top 10 pick. And its the NFL, its possible for 90% of teams out there to have fluke bad seasons.
