Seriously, ESPN does not hate the Orioles. It's beyond ridiculous that anyone truly thinks this. Do they Love the Yankees and Red Sox? NO!!! They cover them more than other teams because that's who people want to see! Come on, people, it's a business, and if the O's/Rangers game would have been the lead story on BBTN last night, it would have been ridiculous and bad for business. Both teams are awful and well out of the race. Should they have mentioned Bedard's game? Of course, and they did. In 1997, the coverage of the Orioles was great and they were discussed virtually every night. Why, because they won, plain and simple. So many people talk about how horrible ESPN is, try to imagine what sports media would be had ESPN never existed.

The Yankees suck, why does ESPN still spend the majority of the time talking about them?

It's not necessarily about ESPN overcovering the Red Sox and Yankees. The problem is that ESPN will talk about how the Yankees WILL come out of their funk - like they can predict the future. They expect it, but they're no better than any other fan - you can never tell if the Yankees will turn it around or not.
ESPN gives the Yankees the benefit of the doubt (and the Red Sox as well) - that's the problem.

Because New York is the largest media market in the country.

I don't think that's all of it, though. I don't think the NY Knicks or Giants get overcovered as much. I think it has more to do with the Yankees payroll, history, fanbase, and recent success.

They also have 4 or 5 Hall Of Famers as well, players people are interested in seeing.

Which is it? Do they cover the best teams more or the teams from the bigger media markets? While I agree that teams like the Yankees, Red Sox and Patriots get covered more because they are usually good, I think it's kind of naive to just dismiss the notion that ESPN is biased towards those teams. It's really not that hard to see this. If the Yankees are doing good BBTN spends the entire show talking about how great they are, if the Yankees are doing bad they spend the entire show talking about why they are doing bad, what they need to do to get better, and how they know that they will do better and make the playoffs.

They got little to no coverage on BBTN until 1996, they weren't very good and the network didn;t cover them. ESPN doesn't "love" the Yankees. It's probably better for business when they're good, but ESPN will be fine and prosper either way. It's such a big story now for them because it's a down year for the Yankees. I feel like if the Yanks are bad for a few years in a row the hype won't be the same. It wasn't before this current run (1996-today).

Isn't it obvious?
They've won the AL East every year for awhile now.
They've won or at least been in the WS more often then not over the past decade or so.
They have the highest payroll by far.
They have by my count, at least 5 future HOF'ers on their team including one of the greatest position players ever, who is having an incredible year, along with one of the best pitchers ever, who has been a huge story regardless of team over the past few years. Plus Jeter is one of the most well known and popular players in baseball.
They have the most infamous owner in baseball, and maybe all of sports.
They were expected to continue their dominance this year, so it is a huge story that they're struggling. Every year people wonder will this be the year the Yanks slip, well now it might be here. It is not much of a story that the O's are in their 10th straight losing season.
They have the greatest history of any team in american sport.
And playing in New York doesn't hurt.

For the record, I have absolutely no problem with ESPN going on and on about how the Yankees suck this year. I could watch this for hours on end. What I don't like is when they win a game and then everybody starts talking about a "turning point." Tonight, Joe Morgan said something like, "Well, if the season ended today, the Yankees would put Clemens first in their rotation and not a Greg Maddux type," and I yelled, "No, they'd put NOBODY, because if the season ended today, the Red Sox win the division, the Indians win the Wild Card, and the Yankees don't even MAKE the playoffs HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!"
And it felt good. :D

I don't detect any Yankee , Red Sox , Oriole bias...but what I do detect is stupid segments on ESPN such as "Who's Now". What the heck does it mean to be "Now"? Last night they had Kobe vs Ronaldiho. Is there any doubt Kobe is more "Now" (again what is defined by now) than some obscure soccer player outside America? This from the same network that had Steve Phillips masquerade as GM's of several different teams a few years back. ESPN needs to cut out these "Who's now" nonsense and report sports scores and the occasional "feel good story". No more asking obvious questions such as WHO IS MORE NOW , TIGER OR MATT LEINART?

Yeah, the "Who's Now" segment is the stupidest thing I've seen on ESPN. Who Gives a Crap? The Budweiser Hot Seat was dumb enough.
ESPN is becoming unwatchable. I tried to tune in last night to the Sunday Night game, and I just had to turn it off. Joe Morgan just couldn't stop yakking about his little strike zone box and whether the umpire was right or not. Blah, blah, blah. Morgan is simply intolerable. Then when I saw they had L.Tomlinson in the booth, I had enough. What the heck's he got to do with this baseball game?
I don't like watching games where the announcers have this long, intricate script of stuff to say worked up before the game. "This inning we'll talk about the pitcher's pending divorce, et al." I'd way rather have a talented announcer just call the game, and let the game come to him. Joe Angel does a splendid job of that on the radio. So does Vin Scully on the TV.
