With about 5% of my brain, I'm watching the absurd Home Run Derby while I do some work and check out Orioles Hangout.
A small question came to mind... how do they pick who gets to participate in the Derby? Why not throw Brian Roberts in there? It would be kind of cool if he could win it; I mean he is capable of hitting home runs...

I'd rather put Gibbons in there and see how high he can pop it up.

Here's what i HATE most about the home run derby. Chris Berman. My gosh he's awful the back back back thing has gotta go, its bad enough having Dusty Baker but the two together is muy malo. Don't get me wrong I can stand him for football but absolutely not for this.

Stepped away for a while. Any sign of "The Perfect One" Cindy?
I assume he's sitting around hanging out with his AL counterparts right?

I agree 100%. I'm flat out amazed that he's allowed to do it. He sounds like a friggin clucking chicken when he does his "Back back back back back" thing. I think I'd rather listen to "You can put it on the booooooard YES!" fifty times instead of that.

Berman is awful, and the entire Derby is too long now. I've never even heard of a few of the players this year. My interest in the event is at an all time low. How about letting the guys use metal bats for the derby so we can see some 650 ft. homeruns?

I was just happy to see Will "The Thrill" Clark. I have had a man-crush on him since I was a little leaguer.

You did miss him Cindy. He was on screen for about a minute just smiling like a kid in a candy store. Looked to be having a good time, even if (and he was quoted on MASN), that none of his "good friends" were there. Except I believe he's friends w/Holliday.

Well I hope his "bad friends" at the ASG aren't keeping him out too late. Lord knows we do not need our only all-star getting tired and going into another post all-star slump. ;) The Orioles web site had a nice story about his relationship with Ken Griffey Jr. though. Apparently they met right before Brian went in for his elbow surgery because Griffey was rehabbing a ruptured hamstring in the same hospital and Griffey kept calling him all winter to see how his rehab was going.
It would be fun to see Brian in the homerun derby, but he'd probably turn it down if he was invited. I used to always use him in the homerun derby in MLB 2k5 (so it was the 2004, 4 homerun version of him) and get my opponent to be Albert Pujols or somebody and then beat them anyway. It worked pretty well. It was almost like the game anticipated his breakout year.

I do like the metal bat idea. They'd have to clear the stadium though b/c someone would get killed.
