Oh my gosh. . . . if Jim Palmer doesn't shut up and come up for air once in a while, I'm gonna be sick. He never shuts up; he has diarrhea of the mouth. And, God forbid, someone disagrees with him! Talk about defensive! I mute the tv so I don't have to listen to him. Where are the good old days of Chuck Thompson and Bill O'Donnell or John Miller and Joe Angel?

Finally, someone else who finds Palmer as annoying as I do. I still don't get how a guy who advertised hair gel, posed for ads in skimpy little tighty-whities and can't possibly look as much younger than his age as he does without significant "enhancement" from doctors can go on as he does about how much tougher the players used to be back in his day. Many (definitely not all) of his criticisms of today's O's are valid, but everything he says always comes back to himself and why he was/is so wonderful. Dude, your a freaking Hall of Famer! Why are you so insecure? Let your numbers speak for themselves.

Yeah, we should definitely hire Rick Dempsey as the color man. That guy knows what he's talking about!

I didn't say the alternatives currently in the O's organization were better... and honestly I will say that Palmer is better than the vast majority of smaller market broadcasters (both radio and tv) in that at least he is knowledgeable. I just don't like his attitude.

There are only two types of good color men. The goofballs and the egotists. We've had both in the recent past, Lowenstein and Palmer. They both are good in different ways, but you have to be able to put up with the prevalent behavior. With Lowenstein you had to weather his antics sometimes when you really weren't in the mood, and with Palmer you have to weather his ego. I'd rather weather his ego and get his excellent analysis then listen to Buck Martinez drone on in that weird voice of his, and prove nightly exactly why he's not a manager anymore.

Personally I don't think announcers get much better than what we've got. Jim Palmer is extremely knowledgeable about the game and isn't afraid to speak about what's going right or wrong - whether it's with the umps, the O's, or the team they're playing. Color guys are supposed to talk a lot, and he does so with honesty.
