This means that the sorry carcass of Jack Wilson is officially on the block, though who would take him and his absurd contract is anyone's guess.

[500th post -- looks like I gotta get myself one of them-thar plus memberships:002_ssuprised: ]

Aww, I like Jack Wilson, he is a gamer. Although his contract is, in fact, absurd. I don't blame him for that though.

The Pirates have been known to give out crippling contracts to mediocre-at-best players. Wilson. Derek Bell (aka "Operation Shutdown"). Kevin Young. Jason Kendall (three different teams are now splitting the cost of that contract). It's amazing that such a low-budget team shells out the most money for the absolute worst players.

No wonder they're approaching their 15th straight sub-.500 season. They're one of the few franchises that's more poorly run than the Orioles.

There is no way Jack Wilson is tradeable with that contract.

The Pirates seem to be what the Orioles aspire to, though. Check out that Jay Gibbons contract again.

My Gibbons comment led me to think about this, I would trade Jay Gibbons for Wilson. They're both signed through 2009 if you decline Wilson's 2010 option (which is a no-brainer). Wilson makes a little more, so get the Bucs to kick in a few dollars or a prospect.

Make Wilson the most expensive utility infielder in baseball. Trade Gomez for whatever fringe pitching prospect you can find. Now you've cleared a spot to go after a power hitter (since we are going to be stuck with Huff and Payton).

The Blue Jays are rumored to want Wilson. Though the Pirates signed Jeromy Burnitz a few years ago, (and saved the O's from misery), his contract wasn't crippling. Still a bad one though.

Apparently, the Pirates asked the Jays about Troy Glaus. That is just funny. He would be an improvement over John McDonald, but the Pirates are going to have to eat a lot of salary.

The Pirates might as well ask for Alex Rios too.
