It's such a beautiful day for a ballgame I decided to cover the Ironbirds in-person today. 0-0 after one inning.

I-Birds' John Mariotti is getting his first start of the season and could be on his way to our prospect tracker. :) So far, no runs, no hits, no walks, 5 K's in three innings. :002_ssuprised: The Batavia Muckdogs look befuddled. Even on the balls their making contact they're late and/or off of their fists.

I don't know where they found some of these guys, but some of the picks after the 12th round are fantastic. Mariotti-18th round pick. :)

How does the big I-Bird first sacker look? Defensively and offensively?
We've been hearing bad things.
Anyone else strike you as a prospect? How's Angle in CF and your boy Wally Crancer?

You can watch the games yourself when they're home.
I can't get the link to work, but if you go to their website and follow the multimedia links.

He's now allowed a run on three hits after six innings. One was a grounder just under the dive of 1B Joe Mahoney that a more nimble first baseman would have fielded, the other just out the reach the diving Jedidiah Stephen, and the third a bloop over the head of 2B Ryan Adams. Even in the 4th when they scored he kept his composure and kept the ball down. The only flaw I see is sometimes he works too fast and his front shoulder flies open, especially when he gets caught up in trying to smoke a fastball past a guy for strike three.

That answers part of my ? ;)
I also had a smart butt comment on Stephen, but Drungo got blasted so I'll reserve comment.

We drafted and signed so many pitchers that not a lot of them are getting work. Justin Moore for example- 1 hit in 7 innings, but he hasn't pitched since June? I guess they figure he can pitch and they want to see how the other guts do? I guess?

1B Mahoney is a BIG kid. His defensive reputation precedes him...everytime a ball gets hit that way, the groans are clearly audible. He also failed to dig a ball out of the dirt thrown by Henson that should have been. I'm not a scout, but I don't think there's a Gold Glove in his future.
Angle is fun to watch! He's got a couple of base hits and runs up the line every time like he's going for two. It actually paid off a few minutes ago...he hit a double that would have been a single had he mosied up the line. Crancer's got a pair of ground outs and a popup to the 3B with one out and Angle standing on third.
The I-Birds just sent Joe Esposito just came out to start the seventh inning in relief of Mariotti.

Thanks SB! I am watching now in Lake Tahoe thanks to Chollie and I can see Jed Stephen with my own eyes. Widlansky grounds out to spoil the effort.

Surprised Jedidiah Stephens wasn't driving a horse-and-buggy? :D

Alright...Angle, Henson, and Crancer lead off the bottom of the eighth with Aberdeen down by two. Henson's error in the top of the inning allowed the 2nd run to score.

I was thinking that if he didn't have those overalls on he might have caught the grounder....the camera also panned to the crowd and a guy with straw hat and chin beard was cheering and I thought - well was that his dad?
Anyway - it's beautiful here in Tahoe and I'm out but thanks for the updates! I'll check out Matt Angle first and then read your report later! Hmm - I need to see if he steals..I got to see Tyler Henson and Wieters's bud, Crancer....

Well it's on Jedidiah Stephen, Joe Nowicki, and Ryan Adams in the bottom of the ninth.
