I realize the Atlantic League is an independent league and not really "minor league" per se, but I didn't know where else to post this.
Last Sunday (the 15th) I watched the Lancaster vs. York game. Lancaster had just recently signed former major leaguer Felix Jose to a contract.
So I was thinking "OK, cool, I get to watch an old MLB'er play." I remember him as a junior member of the Bash Brothers on the A's along with Canseco and McGwire.
Jose did well in the game (2-2, 2 RBI). Then I read an article in the local paper the next day that mentioned Jose had been playing the first half of the season in the Mexican League but got banned from the league for steroid use!
I wasn't too shocked by this news, but I was a little confused as to why he was given another shot to play pro ball, especially in America, with it being such hot topic.
I just noticed on the Atlantic League website they mention he was placed on the Inactive list this past Saturday.
The League has has its fair share of colorful characters players over its 10 years. Rickey Henderson, John Rocker, and the Canseco Bros. come to mind. But I don't feel so good that I paid to watch an actual "convicted" roid rager play.
