I guess it is time to start this thread with the movie coming out and all...

I have been a little nervous actually getting ready to go see this film. I really want a movie that holds up the standards of the show. In other words, I'm worried that the movie will go away from what made the series funny in the first place.

While I do not put much emphasis on what the critics say, most of the reviews I have read have given the movie a very positive review.

Honestly, I just want to laugh so hard I cry...Is that too much to ask???

I'm very surprised by the good reviews. If it's anything like the last 8 years of the show, I can't imagine how it could get good reviews. I'm hoping it won't suck, but I haven't liked any of the TV spots. Matt Groening was on Conan last week and the clip they showed was decent, so I'm a little encouraged by that. I'll probably see it in theaters.

Ditto. However, that's still not going to keep me from seeing it this weekend. ;)

A great movie. Worth the wait and lives up to expectations.

I havent seen a movie at the theatre in over 5 years and will be seeing this a second time this weekend.

Seeing it tonight. Hope it's good.

I'd love for it to be an extended version of any episode circa 1993 or so.

Despite the horrible quality of recent episodes I just purchased my ticket online for the 11:30 AM showing. In the end , I have been following The Simpsons for so many years that I could not say no. Plus , the good reviews didn't hurt either.

A somewhat popular opinion was that they canibalized all the best writers and shanghai'ed all the best gags for the movie these past few years.

I went to the midnight show last night. Like EddieO'sFan, I was a little apprehensive. I've been waiting 18 years for a Simpsons movie to finally be made, but I was worried it would be a disappointment.

I'm glad to say that I very much enjoyed it. While the humor didn't quite match the classic seasons (5-7) of the show, it was definitely a lot stronger than what we've seen over the last few seasons. Lots of funny stuff and nice sight gags. The story sort of jumped around a lot, but that's not unusual for the Simpsons.

My only quibble is that the movie focused a little too much on the Simpson family and didn't give a lot of screen time to the supporting characters around the town, though almost all of them made at least a brief appearance. Still, that's not a big deal in the grand scheme of things.

Overall, I'd give it an A-minus.

It was hilarious , I loved it. A lot funnier than past seasons , which had a lot of stuff that wasn't really funny. There were 3 issues I had with this film : both very minor inconveniences.

1) "President Schwarzenegger" : The same character was often refered to as Rainier Wolfcastle in the series throughout , but in one movie he changes his name to Schwarzenegger? Why?

2) Characters singing. Homer singing is not funny , especially the Spider-pig bit. Luckily this scene was very short and did not detract much from the experience , but I wasn't laughing when everyone else is. It's not funny when someone sings a song poorly.

3) Let's just say there was some nudity in the film that appalled me. Again , minor issue , but I didn't need to see that...LOL

I hate that part of the trailer. Anyways, I'm probably going to see it next weekend. I'm certainly not expecting it to reach the level of quality of its prime years. I'd be happy if the quality is around a good 1997 or 1998 episode. That would be miles ahead of where the show is currently.

I don't know about the SINGING, but the action of him walking the pig on the ceiling cracks me up every single time.

Gotta say I've never been so close to walking out of a movie as I was this. Guess I'm alone here but I found it to be terrible. None of the jokes really got more than a chuckle out of me. Meh.

I hope two things come out of this:

A: You have a dry or different sense of humor.....or
B: Your wrong :D

at least thats what I'm hoping anyway...I reaaaaaaaaaaaally don't want to be disapointed, I grew up with this and a bad movie would be awful, just awful

Being only a casual Simpsons fan, I wasn't sure what to expect. But I gotta say, I enjoyed it.

In the 90s, I was a devoted Simpson's follower. At some point I decided their schtick was getting old and thus no longer that funny. Thus I've not watched them in several years. I'll likely never watch the movie as well.

It's dude.

Sorry man. I figured that since the story was reported on Drudge Report (and some other news sites) before the film's release, most people already knew about it. My apologies to anyone that I might've offended.

I'll delete the previous post immediately. Could you delete the quote from your post as well, please?

By the way, how stupid does the trailer for the Alvin and The Chipmunks movie look? To tell you the truth, I wasn't overly impressed with any of the trailers shown before The Simpsons flick.

Looked awful. I can't believe Jason Lee is going to be Dave.

Funny you say that because when I saw it the other day, I mentioned to my friend that it was the worst lineup of trailers I had ever seen for any movie, just worse than the previews for Shrek 3. And Shrek 3 was pretty bad with a 1-2 punch for Bratz the Movie and Nancy Drew. Usually there's at least one movie in the trailers that looks cool, but not this time.

I saw it tonight, and I liked it. It definitely doesn't match the quality of the show during its prime years, but it far surpasses anything they've done in the last 7-8 years. The only joke that reeked of the current era was the spider pig crap. That's the only joke I felt missed the mark by a large margin. I'm satisfied enough with this movie, but I think that has a lot to do with my expectations being so low due to the current quality of the show. I really wish they would've have made the movie during its prime years. I can't even imagine how awesome it would've been. As is, the movie is solid, but not great.
