vs. RHP:
AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS
.311 180 27 56 11 2 4 34 18 46 3 1 .372 .461 .833
vs. LHP:
AVG G AB R H 2B 3B HR RBI TB BB SO SB CS OBP SLG OPS
.133 45 4 6 1 0 1 4 5 22 0 1 .235 .222 .458
The splits were there though less dramatic last year, as well; a 1.006 OPS vs RHP, and a .751 OPS vs LHP.
Is this something to be concerned about? Lots of people have been extremely high on him since the day we signed him. If he can't hit left handed pitching, he really wont be a very valuable major leaguer. Have there been similar cases in which a player was abysmal vs. one type of pitcher but, later on, learned to hit them?

He'll fit in well with the O's!

That's certainly not encouraging, but the kid's 18 years old.

The longer he's in the Orioles system, the worse he gets.Markakis was rescued just in time.

I'm not going to get overly concerned about 45 ABs for a guy who was injured a large part of the year.
I think he'll be fine. No guarantees, but that's not enough of a sample to get me worked up.

45 at bats are not totally meaningless, especially considering there was a .250 point different in his OPS last year, too.
If it doesn't concern you, ignore the thread.

Really, all that was required was "I think 45 at-bats is a small sample size", but I guess the opportunity to throw in a few eye rolls to upstage someone is beyond that poster's threshold for civility.

In 67 ABs last year, he hit .254/.363/.388/.751 against them.
He had a 1.006 OPS against righties.
Is it concerning? Not really. The scouting report heading into the year was that he can hit against lefties.

That's like 10-12 games worth of at bats. If he gets a hit in his next at bat against a lefty, his average goes up 20 points. If he hits a home run, his slugging would go up like 80 points.
I'm sorry I came off like that with the  and all, but a good day or two against a lefty would would completely rework his line against lefties, and it's important to remember that Beverly Hills Cop II came out before this guy who is currently in the SAL.
