Do you guys think one of these guys can play an average or better CF at the Major League level and put up a >.700 OPS.

As much as I like Val, it may be there only chance (in center).

Not a chance.

Better off resigning Patterson or going after Rowand or Byrnes

We don't have any prospects who can play a GOOD CF.

Fio has an outside chance. The offensive numbers may not be there (not that OPS is all that important of a statistic anyway). He plays a fantastic CF, just because of his instinct and the jumps he gets on the ball. Luis Montanez also has some potential defensively (but I haven't seen enough of his bat to comment about the offense) although he wasn't getting it done with the bat in Norfolk.

What is an important Statistic then?

Back on topic, I just don't see it either. As nice as it would be to have a homegrown replacement for Patterson I don't just don't see it happening.

I would just like to add that Fiorentino's catch in left field last night in Trenton was one of the best catches I've seen all year. He reached over the wall to bring back a home run that would've tied the game for Trenton.

His defense has never been called into question this season. He gets some really good jumps on balls and has good range out there.

It seems to me that while Fio's offense really has not progressed like we had hoped the last two years, his defensive reputation has gone way up. I don't think that gets him to the major leagues, though, unless he finds a way to add 50+ points to his OPS.
