In case anyone's interested. Facing Wilmington at home.

Well, I'll be checking the box score as I always do when he pitches. It's really a shame about his season thus far, I'm rooting as hard for as as just about any other orioles top prospect.

I'll assume that he's done now but he went through 7 innings giving up three runs on five hits and two walks. Only two strikeouts but not a bad outting.

He went 8. Considering his season, I'd call tonight's start encouraging. Still, no sign of the dominance displayed last season.

There's a trend to his starts, if you'll look closely. Nearly every time he starts, he encounters trouble within the first three innings. After that, he generally pitches well to unhittable. But that little hiccup early on has killed him and his top prospect ranking. Tonight's outing was good, and the two K's to end the 8th were real encouraging, especially since he's only gone 8 one other time. I'm hoping he starts a string of outings like this to end the season, otherwise Keys fans will rejoice when he, along with Berken and Bergesen team up with Jeff Moore and Beato to form next year's Keys rotation.

After this season, does anyone really have a timetable for Erbe? I dont think it would be a bad thing to see him spend half of next year in Frederick and then move up to Bowie for the second half.

There appears to have been a desire to get Erbe to go deeper into games.

I have no issue with his year so far. His starts are mediocre, but he has had a number of quality starts for a young pitcher in High A. I'd like to see a few more Ks, but, overall, I think he is doing fine.

No issue with his season? That's hard to believe. No cause for concern at all? A pitcher who dominates he first 1 1/2 seasons and has an ERA close to 6 with declining K numbers and increasing W numbers? It might be just a bump in the road to future stardom but it's hard to fathom the "no issues" statement.

The bottom line here is that Erbe is going to have to repeat Frederick next year, for at least a half-season. Anyone disagree?

Malone factor. Pay attention.

Yea, you can't put him in Bowie to start the year next year barring some huge turnaround this month and even then, i am not so sure.

Pushing him up to Bowie at this point would be a disaster IMO. Halfway through next season at the earliest.

Good, I'm glad I'm not the only one who feels that way about having Erbe remain in Frederick for at least part, if not all of next year. As I talked to Tommy Thompson last night he reiterated that Erbe is 4 or 5 years ahead of the average age for players in the league. So the more I've thought about it, having him repeat advanced-A ball against hitters several years older would probably be a good thing.
