Eli Whiteside hurt in today's game

Bronson Sardinha came in and bulldozed Eli on a throw from Ruddy Yan to home plate. His neck snapped back and he fell to the ground. They're taking him off on a stretcher. Probably just precaution, but he didn't move for a good five minutes here.

It was one of the more gruesome sights I've ever witnessed at a baseball game. Sardinha is one of the bigger guys in the league and he came in and completely trucked Eli.

The game was delayed almost 10 minutes. Best wishes to Eli, he's been nothing but nice to me. I sincerely hope it's not too serious.

Sorry to kinda steal that from you Mike. I posted it sort of to do something with the feelings. Please keep us posted on anything you hear, okay?

Molina went in after going over signs with Deza. Hernandez isn't playing today (yet anyway), Blake Davis having still kept himself at the double-A level regardless of what was called here earlier in the week. ;) (I actually suspect he hadn't arrived in time for the day game?)

To me at least, I didn't see the need for Sardinha to run him over. He had beaten the throw and a simple slide would've scored the run. There was no retaliation during Sardinha's next at bat but it will be interesting to gauge a reaction of the play after the game.

You can tell how much Eli is revered on this team by the way the team rushed to his aid the second he went down. Oscar Salazar was frantically signaling for the medics as well. Eli is a true professional, an observation that anyone who has interacted with him will echo without a doubt. Once again, my best wishes go out to Eli.

I'm not sure that Hernandez has joined the team in Jersey yet. I'll be sure to find out after the game.

No, definitely AA Bowie. And I just heard Steven Smith say that he will be joining the team tomorrow.

In talking to some of the Trenton media, Sardinha felt that Whiteside had the plate completely blocked and he was just trying to score. You have to remember that at that point, it was only a 2-0 Bowie lead.

They said that Sardinha is not a guy who really plays dirty and that he felt bad about it after the game. You could also tell by his approach at the plate from then on out that he was maybe a little shaken by it all.

Eli is staying overnight at Mercer Medical Center in Trenton. He is responsive though he doesn't remember the play according to a statement released by Bien Figueroa. He will be staying overnight for tests.

Sounds like a grade 2 concussion. I'd expect he will go on to the 15-day DL.
