He seems to be recovering his prospect status with each passing month. After a 925 OPS in July he seems to be starting Aug off well. I remember Jordan stating with a great deal of certainty that Snyder's bat will play in the Majors. It is a real shame he lost last season.

Should Snyder jump back to the top of our prospect radar.. where does he project position-wise? Obviously the hope would be to have Weiters at catcher, so do we make Brandon a DH/backup catcher, or could we end up keeping him at 1B and pass on Tex? Should be interesting to watch and see what develops.

Is he athletic enough to play LF/CF?

I hope they don't put him back behind the plate. I'd like to see him at 3B and see if he can handle it as you can always put him back at 1B if it doesn't work out. I definitely don't pass on Tex as you can't pass on his proven bat.

He's an athletic player, yes. Originally the talk was if he didn't make it as a catcher he'd play 3B, or perhaps OF. The O's could have an interesting decision to make regarding him and Wieters next year.

Are you suggesting a possible move from behind the plate for Weiters? Or are you just saying that the possible arrival of Weiters will force Brandon to stay put elsewhere?

I'd be stunned if Wieters moved anywhere so soon.

I must of just misinterpreted your post, because I thought you were suggesting the possibility of moving Snyder back behind the plate, thus leaving the orioles with an interesting decision regardeing Weiters and Snyder.

2 years ago, it seemed like we were pretty strong in OF prospects, but now we're very short there, so if he can play the OF, that would seem like the best option - though you never know who we'll get in trade or free agency, so just play him where he's best - is what I'd do. My theory is - if a player can play catcher at a high level, you put him at catcher - no matter how many catching prospects you have - unless you're worried about his knees. A catcher who can hit is gold in trade value.

Jordan has said that they still believe Snyder has a future as a catcher and that they wouldn't make a position change this early in his career (not counting the move to 1B due to his shoulder injury). Management believes that the transition from behind the plate doesn't need to be considered at this point. Still, it will be interesting to see if they stick to that next season.

Also, need to keep in mind that they still have Rowell at 3B, although, at some point, he could be moved to the OF or 1B, as well.

And the 2 Tylers could eventually figure in at 3B - Kolodny and Hansen (if he can't cut it at SS).

Unless there are two prospects at the same level I wouldn't worry about anybody blocking anybody else, at least not enough to justify switching someone's position. If moving Snyder to 3B or LF or wherever is in his best interest as a prospect, then do it. Don't do it because we have Rowell or Weiters already at some other positions.

You obviously know more than I do, but this sounds super confident that we'll have Wieters signed and in the system...I wish I felt that confident....

Maybe, he could be used as a spare, like Salty, and Wieters could be our main catcher kinda like Brian Mccann, and then steal some top prospects some from other teams?

But Snyder looked pretty good at the plate tonight, even if he didn't have
anything to show for it. He hit two absolute ropes to each of the gaps, but unfortunately the Ashville defense was standing right where he hit the ball both times.
