View Full Version : A question about our lower level Coaching

Do we have someone in our organization whose responsibility is to rove throughout our minor league teams and help our younger players with pitch recognition and plate discipline? After watching games at Aberdeen and Delmarva in the past week, this seems to be a glaring problem in our lower teams (and can as well be seen by taking a closer look at the stats of our position players on all of our minor league affiliates...).

The same could be said for pitching!

We have several coaches that are rovers for our minor league teams. Julio Vinas, Butch Davis, Doc Watson, Lawless. All have differnt roles they fill in teaching our young guys.

The only place where there seems to be a glaring problem in our pitching (at least to my untrained eye, and short of Chorye Spoone who is having a lights out year) is Fredrick. For some reason, our prospects are getting hammered there where they have put up better numbers elsewhere.

Hmm...noddly. Thanks for info, but does anyone else know which one teaches which aspect of the game?

And the scouts all say the Carolina League is down this year talent-wise. I am looking forward to hearing what the Frederick coaches have to say at the end of the season about those kids' recent struggles and how their development is coming along.

Another possibility that can't be overlooked is that the coaches have very little to do with it.
When players don't perform, it's usually because the players may not be as good as people think they are, not because they weren't coached well.
Yeah, yeah, I know what people have said about Erbe and Hernandez in particular, but their numbers say otherwise.

Thanks! So it's looking like Denny Walling. Hmm...

Denny Walling is a GREAT hitting instructor who has helped many players.

Denny Walling has fixed a lot of holes in Frederick's offense, and I specifically remember Jonathan Tucker praising him for getting him out of a horrific slump a month or two ago. Every time he comes to town in Frederick, it seems he's the reason the offense reignites.
Our minor league coordinators are underappreciated for the long hours they put in and the great jobs they have provided to the players.

So what do the coaches do, just put on their uniforms and look cute!!! They have to take some of the blame. They're suppose to develop players, right!! They're suppose to be their eyes when things go wrong and adjust!!! Don't get me wrong the players do need to take some responsilbity, but to put blame on them isn't right. So you're saying that Erbe and Hernandez may not be good at all. I'm sure glad you're not in charge of player development.

So you're saying the Erbe and Hernandez are no good.
No, I'm saying their numbers speak for themselves. They have the basic skills. Now it's whether they develop mentally and emotionally.
I know your English skills are not too good, and perhaps it's not your native language, but if that's the case you shouldn't be putting words into people's mouths.

What is his philosophy on hitting? Does he advocate working counts? Pitch
selection? Or aggression?
