I know a lot can happen between now and then, but I thought it would be interesting to look at what we have in the system and how it projects down the road. I'm only including players currently in the organization or drafted this year and likely to sign, i.e. yes to Wieters and Arrieta, but no Texeira.
1B: *Billy Rowell
2B: #Luis Hernandez
SS: Tyler Henson
3B: Brandon Snyder
INF/OF: Paco Figueroa
INF/OF: Miguel Abreu
C: #Matt Wieters
C: *Zach Dillon
LF: Nolan Reimold
CF: *Matt Angle
RF: *Nick Markakis
DH: Chris Vinyard
OF: *Brandon Tripp
Leaving Brian Roberts off this list was tough, but being as he would be 34 by then I figured he'd be declining and money would be tight with the starting staff being fairly veteran (expensive). One other question for me was who would play CF when Angle has a day off, but I hoped Paco, Miguel or Tripp could play CF some. Vinyard got the nod over Joe Mahoney as I chose to have another RH bat. Reserve catcher is another tough one as there just isn't much there.
SP: Erik Bedard*
SP: Jeremy Guthrie
SP: Adam Loewen*
SP: Garrett Olson*
SP: Brandon Erbe
CL: Chris Ray
SU: Jim Hoey
SU: Chad Thall*
RP: Brian Burres*
RP: Chorye Spoone
RP: Tim Bascom
RP: Zach Britton*
It was difficult to leave Penn, Liz, D. Hernandez, Beato, Arrieta and Bergesen off this list. With injuries and trades it sure is nice to have a little depth.
I'm sure it will look very different than this by 2012, but right now that's what I came up with. What do you think?
1B Billy Rowell
2B Brian Roberts
SS Tyler Henson
3B Brandon Snyder
C Matt Wieters
LF Nolan Reimold
CF Matt Angle
RF Nick Markakis
DH J.R. House
1P Erik Bedard
2P Jeremy Guthrie
3P Adam Loewen
4P Garrett Olson
5P Chorye Spoone
CL Jim Hoey
SL Bret Bordes
SR Radhames Liz
SL Wilfredo Perez
SR David Hernandez
LR Brandon Erbe

I'd have Mahoney at DH with Reimold in CF and Angle as a util. I think we will get a good LF this offeason that will still be there. Hopefully someone from AZ. Erbe and Spoone are a toss up for me at the 5th spot. I think Ray will be the set-up guy. Other than that it looks good.

I'm surprised that people are writing off Penn so soon.

I think Bedard will be gone in 2012. If we are able to buy-out two years of FA with a four year deal, we'll have him through 2011. There would be an excellent chance he is no longer in black and orange.
I'd give that last pitcher spot to Erbe, Penn or Arrietta.

2012 is so far that we could draft kids next year or the year after that make a huge impact on the team.
Still a nice job you did.
I think baring injury that both Rowell and Snyder are gonna be monsters. Weiters also. I think all three of these picks are gonna pan out.

He hasn't even signed a contract and you have him penciled in as the 5th spot! We have guys in the system that are just as good or even better than Arrietta(we really don't know how good he is until he suits up) that I would consider first and already have their feet wet. As in Hernandez, Bergesen, Berken, Beato and even Blascom who has at least 1/2 year head start.

No one criticized the earlier posts for putting Wieters in there, but feel free to go after me for Arrietta.

Excuse me, that was an oversight on my part. Weiters doesn't belong either. But Weiters, I believe will sign as for Arrietta, I just don't know. He must asking for the moon if he hasn't signed yet.

Bump!!!
I didnt bump this to mock anyone or their picks. Just to walk down memory lane and see how much things change and long term predictions are pretty sketchy.
I still liked Rowell and Snyder then. Ouch. That one is not looking good.

Yuck! I'll mock me a little. :)
I got Markakis, Wieters and Guthrie right. I had Britton in the bullpen, so I guess that is partial credit.
There is still hope for Reimold, Spoone, Snyder, Henson and Erbe. And, atleast Bedard, Olson, Hoey, Ray and Burres are still on ML rosters.

Even Lincecum could not have saved us with these lineups.

I would only mock you if your username was "Nostradamus". If I could go back in time, I'd give you rep just for starting this thread.

Neither Olson, nor Burres are on ML rosters. They were banished by the Pirates to Triple-A Indianapolis.

Ah, foiled again. Atleast they were on ML rosters earlier this season. :)

Thank you kindly sir.
Funny how things have changed. Certainly, I would have thought Loewen would still be a part of the rotation.

Thank goodness we made some of the trades we did. Snyder is finally starting to show some progress though and maybe he can be viable at First Base... at least as a reserve in 2012. I just wish Reimold would finally shine and have a solid year like he did 2009... but he's slumping again in Norfolk after a relatively hot start. Sigh.

I would have thought Loewen would have been the ace of the staff by now, I really believed in him back in 07. I also thought Rowell would be in the majors by now. Thank God Arrietta and Britton are better than many people thought. I'm not sure that lineup could win at Norfolk. :angryfire:
