Don't feel bad Cindy. I travel all the time for business and my current project is in Providence, RI. Last night the 3 PM flight from PVD to DCA was pushed back until 6(a co-worker was on it). The 7 PM US Air flight I was on was canceled at 5. I rebooked on the 9PM flight, which was cancelled at 7. I just decided it wasn't worth it and rebooked for the 6AM flight this morning.
Southwest, who never cancels flights, actually pushed back there 7 flight to 9, then to 11, then to 1AM, and finally gave up and cancelled it outright. The people trying to rebook off that flight didn't even have an opening until Saturday. A few of my coworkers were flying SW and I think they ended up taking the train home instead of waiting around until Saturday.
These things happen from time to time. The weather will get screwed up somewhere and a bunch of planes won't take off. That sort of thing just ripples across the country. I understand yesterday was weather related. It can be a little confusing when you first start to travel because chances are (like last night), the weather where ever you is fine. Providence was beautiful last night: blue skies, 70 degrees, low humidity. It's the weather in Atlanta, or Chicago, or DC that screwing things up hundreds of miles away.
Traveling for business it's just a fact of life, but I understand how frustrating it is when you've made personal plans that get screwed up. Delays and cancellations on company time are one thing. When they on personal time it's another.
Last night seemed to be particularly bad for the New England area. I was surprised it didn't even crack the news. I missed my little brother's 21st birthday party last night but I'll see him tonight to try and make up for it. I hope you get out today and still manage to salvage your weekend.
