for a September callup?

10-4, 3.43 ERA, 141 SO in 126 IP at Bowie.

I think Liz has to be protected on the major league roster so he is not taken in the Rule 5 draft, so we may see him in the O's pen next month.

I'd rather see us release Trachsel and go with Liz over the last month of the season.

Bedard- Guthrie- Cabrera- Olson- Liz doesn't look too bad to me.

I can't see the O's pushing him up to the majors in September for a starting role. I could see Baltimore giving him a bullpen role to see how his stuff fares against big league hitters, but the amount of innings would be way way too much to start him every 5th day for meaningless games. By not overworking him in September, you keep him fresh for 2008.

I'd rather see Penn in there than Liz - this year.

Penn is still getting up to speed in the GCL, and who knows when he'll be full strength. Considering last September, I think it might just be better for Penn to continue his rehab and then go off to some winter league or the instructional league to build up a few innings and come back ready for Spring Training. As for Liz, I don't really think he's ready to start at the ML level but I'd be curious to see him get a few innings here and there in the bullpen, just to see what kind of stuff he has for that role.

After 126 innings, I don't want to see Liz get his first start. If he gets a few innings in the BP, that's fine..he's earned that. If he starts and is tired, gets rocked, or whatever, we'll have to listen ALL WINTER to some fans saying "He sucks", "I thought he was good", "He has a 12.xx ERA", Just like Penn after his infamous start.

That approach probably gets Penn another option too. I am all for that.

He's showing good signs of building up that strength - as his last 2 starts have been his best and longest. They've done a nice slow job of rehabbing him. If he's going to be considered for next year's rotation, I think he's got to show something this year. So, as long as his arm is strong, I'd like to see him get 4 September starts for Baltimore.

And Loewen.

And if he tanks in September, than what? He's out of options and good luck trying to send him down in 2008... he'll never get through waivers. Let him sit in September, got to the AFL and get the option back that was used this year. Bring him to spring training in 2008 and if he doesn't make the ballclub, than he can be optioned back to AAA.

And Loewen.

I, for one, would hate to see the Orioles bring Loewen back to pitch this year. We have enough ruined young arms.

I didn't realize that would put him out of options. If that's the case, I concur.

So true. In many different construction.

We have enough ruined young arms.
We have ruined enough young arms.

Some we destroy ourselves. Even better, some we trade for. :D
