I'm glad no one rushed to judgement on them :D

I was going to start a thread about Rowell, but I'll put it here.
I have seen alot of posts about him being a disappointment this year. Personally, considering he got off to a slow start because of an injury. I don't think that 7 hr's and 51 rbi's in 71 games is all that bad.

Hoping that they both finish strong enough to earn starts next year in Frederick.

I would think that's the plan. I hope they're in Bowie by mid-July '08.

I'll admit I was ready to write offSnyder due to the K's, but he's had a nice 2nd half. Originally wanted Bruce ( picked one spot before us), but like the snyder pick. Rare for a guy who stikes out that much to improve rapidly . As they say ,"its how you finish". Most encouraging that they both are hitting .330 plus this month.

I hope Snyder is in Frederick next year and moves along quickly, but it wouldn't be terrible for Rowell to spend another year in Delmarva.
His strike out numbers are still very high and he will be 19 through the entire 2008 season. Let him stay down on the shore and hit .325 with 30 bombs and cut down on his strikeouts. If he goes to Frederick and Bowie for 2009 and 2010 respectively, he'll be at OPACY by the time he's 22 and I'll take that.

Disagree. Rowell needs to move to Frederick.
Comparison's sake, here are Markakis's numbers vs. Rowell's numbers in Delmarva.
Markakis - 20 yrs old - 355 AB .299/.371/.471/.841
Rowell - 18 yrs old - 275 AB .287/.354/.444/.798
I am expecting huge success in his third season in the system for Rowell. I would not be surprised if he spent August with Bowie as a 19 year old and was a top 10 prospect in all of baseball.

That would be fine if his development needed that, but I don't see any reason why he shouldn't start at Frederick next season. Age shouldn't have anything to do with it, if he shows his ready (and I believe his numbers do) then he should move up next season.

An 18 year old who is putting up .800 OPS - may surge past that now that he's healthy - while dealing with an injury at Low A does not need to repeat that level.

Both Rowell and Snyder should start in Fredrick next season, and both have a shot to move up to Bowie before the end.
On another note, do you think it's possible Snyder and Rowell switch positions next season? Rowell has 16 errors in 71 games (1 in every 4.5 games) and Snyder has 11 errors in 106 games (1 in every 9.5 games), with both having started some games at DH as well (probably Snyder with a slightly higher DH start %). Considering that Snyder was a C/3B coming in, would this move make sense, or might Snyder move back to C if Weiters does not sign?

You can rave about his OPS, but he's struck out a solid 30 percent of his at bats.
No 21 percent or 25 percent, but 30 percent of the time he sees three strikes and sits down. Also, his defensive numbers are less then impressive.
You can't say his age means nothing. He has plenty of time to grow and develop. Let him mash it in Delmarva next year while improving with his glove.
If he's in Bowie when he's 21 the Orioles are a .500 team. If he's in Baltimore when he's 21, they are still a .500 team. Let him dominate rather then play well enough for a promotion.

Don't rush him, but one level a year is a very good pace for him.
